Islamabad, Jan 18 (First Post) : The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has reportedly summoned Tahir- ul- Qadri and asked him to explain why he violated an oath he took while seeking asylum in Canada.

Pakistani daily The Express Tribune reported that the Mounted Police wanted Qadri to appear before them on 5 February and explain why he violated an oath oath stating that he was not allowed to enter the country he had sought asylum from.

The report says, “According to Express News correspondent Shakeel Anjum, Abdul Shakoor Qadri, otherwise known as Tahir Qadri, had sought asylum from Canada in 2008, fearing threats to his life after he met with the Danish cartoonist responsible for making blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).”

Qadri is due to return to Canada later this month.

The Pakistan-born, Canada-based Sufi cleric returned to his homeland with a call for a mass upsurge against the democratically elected civilian government and marched into Islamabad with thousands of supporters on Monday and began a protest near Parliament.

Qadri finally ended his protest after he reached a deal with the administration on Thursday that will give him a say in the electoral process ahead of elections.
