Puerto Rican firms to advertise more on social media

San Juan, Feb 1 (IANS/EFE): Puerto Rico's businesses plan to spend up to 10 percent of their advertising budgets on social media this year, focusing on social-networking giants Facebook and Twitter.

Companies based in the Caribbean island plan to target social media with between 7 percent and 10 percent of their advertising budgets, the Puerto Rican Association of Sales and Marketing Executives said.

Puerto Rican businesses are expected to gradually increase the amount they spend on Internet advertising, especially social media, the association said.

It report, however, concluded that Puerto Rican consumers were still not attuned to social-networking brands, making it clear that firms still have much work to do to gain traction in this sector.
