Mangalore, Feb 1: The second edition of the Kannada translation of the Quran, by Abdussalam Puthige, published by Madhyama Prakashana, Bangalore, was released by Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar, professor, St Aloysius P U College, at Town Hall here on Friday February 1.

The event was organized by Forum for Humanity in association with Yuva Vahini Central Committee, Mangalore. The programme was presided over by Puthige.

Y Abdullah Kunhi, chancellor, Yenepoya University, Monsignor Fr Denis Prabhu, vicar general, Mangalore diocese, K Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi, president, Jagatahika Bantara Sanghagala Okkuta, Dr C P Habeeb Rehman, president, Forum for Humanity, and Vijay Kumar Kubevoor, president, Yuvavahini Central Committee, were also present on the dais.

Speaking after the inauguration, Dr Sankamar said that he was proud to release the book and termed it an important stage of his life. “Many people asked me what the relation between the Quran, Yuvavahini, and Forum for Humanity is. The answer is that the preaching of Narayan Guru Swamy has a direct relation to the Quran. Quran is for humanity, likewise Yuvavahini is for the service for the people of all religions, castes, and creeds," he said.

"All religious centres need to possess religious scripts of all religions. Bappanadu Temple is a historic example of communal harmony where the Goddess granted and fulfilled the wishes of Bappa Byari. Likewise, there is a need to nurture communal harmony among religions,” he added.

In his address, Maladi said that in the past there was much peace and harmony among all religions. “But that is vanishing in the present day because people have been misguided and misled in the name of religion. These kinds of translations are a must as it helps people understand about other religions and helps in building a peaceful and harmonious society,” he added.

Abdullah Kunhi said that Puthige has done the translation in a very systematic way and this will help non-Muslims understand the religion and its teachings.

Fr Prabhu said that people of all community have come together in this programme and this has been a live example of communal harmony. “Religion leads us to progress. We are all children of God and God is our dictator. We come once to this earth and hence it is necessary to lead a fruitful, peaceful, and harmonious life,” he added.

In his presidential address, Puthige thanked Allah for giving him an opportunity to translate the Quran to Kannada and make it available to all. “Quran comes from a particular period and place, but that is not mentioned anywhere nor has an effect on the teachings,” he said.

Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math who could not attend the programme conveyed his wishes and stressed on the importance of living a life of values and praticing the teachings of one's religion. He also called upon people to live with peace and harmony despite their religious differences.

Holy Quran is one of the best religious books in the world. I have great reverence to this Holy Book because I have gone through most of its contents when I was in Gulf countries. However, translations sometimes changes/damages the true meaning of its contents . It should be done only by scholars and re-checked several time prior to the release of translated editions. May almighty Allah bless all its creation with peace and harmony.

..Good work, God bless all who have involved in this noble work..a Paricular religion is judged by acts of its followers...All religions are good, divine but it is the misguided followers who bring bad name to the religion...It is time to introspect since things happening from Bali to mali, all over Gulf countries, Egypt,Pakistan,Afghanistan etc., deffinately not giving good signs...Unfortunately, we are all more & more concentrated on 'Not dos' written in the Holy books rather than 'Dos'..Hence, there is threat to individual of all walks of life of religion..
