Kasargod, Feb 6: According to sources, a special team has been formed to investigate deaths of four members of a family, including two children, found dead inside their car in mysterious circumstances near Maippady bridge, Kasargod.

It is said the special investigation team is being led by DySp K V Raghuraman. Kasargod circle inspector SK Sunil Kumar, civil police officer C K Balakrishnan and others are expected to be a part of the team.

On January 29, the dead bodies of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited employee and resident of Kudlu PC Soni Kutty (46), his wife Kasargod General Hospital nurse K M Theresiamma (39), their children Jerrin (12) and Jewel (l0), were found in their car parked near Shri Gopalkrishna School.

It is suspected that the two children and the mother were smashed with a machete. The police suspect that Soni committed suicide after killing the other three.

However, their family argues that Soni was financially sound. They claim that he owns property worth about Rs 5 crore and he would not kill his family and himself for a debt of Rs 50 lac. Both husband and wife were in good jobs. Hence, the family suspects foul play.

Kasargod, Feb 6: The police team led by deputy superintendent of police, K V Raghuraman, is in receipt of the post mortem reports on the bodies of Soni Kutti (46), his wife, Theresiamma (39), son, Jerin (12) and daughter, Jewel (10), which were found in an Alto car on January 29 at Mayipady in the district.

Soni Kutti, it is said, had an accumulated debt running into several lac rupees, and that he was frustrated as he could not find sources to bring down his liability. The theory of the police is that he killed his family members before loading their bodies into his Alto car and driving away for some distance, before parking the car by the roadside and releasing gas from the LPG cylinder fitted in the car to kill himself by inhaling it.

The report says that the death of the three family members of Soni Kutti had occurred at around 2.30 am on January 29, whereas Soni Kutti died between 4 and 5 am that day. Soni’s internal organs were found to have suffered 40 percent burns, and his death occurred due to suffocation and inhalation of poisonous gas, the report concluded.

The police have found that Soni had called over 30 persons over phone within a span of a few minutes the day before his death. A few among them were requested for a loan of a few lac rupees. Raghuraman said his team will conduct in-depth study into the reasons for raising such a huge loan and the buildup of pressure that forced Soni to end the lives of himself and his family members.
