Want to connect with people who haven't seen 'Aashiqui': Mohit Suri

Mumbai, Apr 10 (IANS): Director Mohit Suri, who has directed musical "Aashiqui 2", says he feels more responsible towards those audiences who haven't seen the original 1990 film.

"I feel more responsible making 'Aashiqui 2' for those people who don't know about 'Aashiqui'. People who are 21 or 22 years old, or like my cousin Alia, who wasn't born that time. I feel more responsibility to connect to those people," Suri told IANS.

"The people who have already watched 'Aashiqui' will come to watch it to pull it down. They will come to say that 'Aashiqui' was good. I want to connect to those who don't know about the music of that 'Aashiqui'. I know there are few (such people), but that's the responsibility," he added.

The original "Aashiqui", directed by Mahesh Bhatt, featured Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal.

The new movie, releasing April 26, stars Kunal Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. It is not the sequel to the old film, but they share a similarity in the fact that both are musical sagas and romantic stories.

Asked about the commercial viability of the movie, Suri said: "The film stands alone on its own ground. I won't be making this film with newcomers if I was in that ball game of Rs.100 crore."
