Sullia: 'No bill for me, I am AC of tax department' - lady to bakery cashier!

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia

Sullia, Apr 14: Misuse of power by government officials and bureaucrats is often a subject of much debate. There are some who abuse their positions to get favours out of turn, and there are those, as in this case, who seem to think everything comes free of cost with their official badge.

In an amusing incident, a lady who bought sweets worth Rs 300 from a bakery here walked out nonchalantly without bothering to pay, claiming that she was the assistant commissioner of the commecial tax department in Bangalore!

It is said that three women entered Ranjith Bakery at Gandhinagar here and bought a variety of sweets. When the cashier handed them a bill of Rs 300, one of the women said that she was the assistant commissioner of the commercial tax department in Bangalore and sped off in a car with her companions without paying.

Taken aback by her behaviour, the bakery owner informed the Sullia police station. From there information was passed on to Kallugundi police, who intercepted the women's car and brought them to Sullia police station.

The lady then produced her id card and said that she was Indumati Patil, posted as AC in Bangalore.

Meanwhile the sub-inspector was in a meeting called by the deputy commissioner. He instructed the bakery owner to file a written complaint against the lady official, but he refused. When the lady offered to pay the money for the sweets she bought, the owner refused to take it and asked her to instead offer it to the deity at Kalkuda. The police, who could not ascertain whether she was really an official or an imposter, sent her back.

Commercial Tax Dept., Bangalore can view this photograph of this woman and confirm or deny if she is AC in that office.
If she is, as she claims, then the CTD should take action against her for what she has done in that particular shop.
She may be doing it in each and every shop where she buys things - if any shop owner objects then he will find soon enough what trouble he is in - No wonder this sweet shop did not file a complaint nor he accepted the money.
This is our Govt..and it's honourable officers\ministers etc etc.

Excellent reporting by Daiji. Maranawani will never publish such reports They are scared. Daiji initiative is yielding results. Its the public power. Well such didigiri is increasing. Bakerywala did the right thing by reporting to police. Her photo and details should be posted and shared at Facebook and her family and children must realize the public anger. Paste some posters outside her house and office. Now money to Kalkuda, she has to do it every year other Kalkuda will not spare her ! Thats the power. Bakery wala did the right thing Kalkuda and Dharmasthala annappa are not ordinary End of Story. When govt encouraged women into employment hoping for reduction in corruption, but women govt employees are the worst. Their greed for money gold sarees is never ending. Only vigilant public and media can arrest these corrupt women and control. Shame Shmae

India has a long way to go...why can't a public procecuter take over and set an example that the judiciary is people friendly....the bakery man did not file a case 'cause it would consume his time and money for more bribes...hence a wise decision of not filing a case.

I was imagining the lady to be somewhat decent & societal looking without photo. After DW put her photo, this does not seem to be a woman-kind esp looking at the facial expressions! No doubt she is an AC of I-T!.

Thugs seems to be ruling this kingdom.....

A case shuld have been registered against shop owner by the police,as he wasted time, money ,and efforts of the police and govt. And refused to file a complaint against the lady,in fear that he may get hardship from tax dept. Why he should fear if he is running his business legally....?? may be he is not paying the tax....???

    Bang these people.

All people who abuse power esp. the bureaucrats, get them on their knees to beg for mercy. Let the police register a case thereafter.

This is the only better way for country to progress!

be frank and say openely gone to the dogs. Every politician, govt officials, public servant has no respect for citizens. Even though tax payaers pay thier salaries but they dominate the citizen in a corrupt ways rather more disciplinary ways. Time for the oridinary citizens to fold slevees and teach a leason for the corrupt, coomunals, goondas for not behaving unrthically. We are too polite to deal these people. we need iron hands to crush them,

I can quote enough and more such personal experiences with the commercial tax department. They are not just corrupt, they are utterly shameless. Since the bakery owner is God-fearing he did not file a complaint. He should have filed a police complaint and made her to wander from pillar to post for the rest of her life. One thing these corrupt government servants don't realise is that the money they earn by unethical means will be spent paying medical bills.

I wonder what is wrong with the bakery owner. Why did he inform police in the first place? Police acted on his mere information? Isn't it a normal practice to file a 'complaint' (not inform) with the police and the police act on the COMPLAINT?. If police are required to act on 'information' who will pay for such acts? Absurd.
