Udupi, Apr 16: Three buses, which were moving towards Udupi, got involved with an accident near Halima Sabju marriage hall in Udyavar on national highway 66 on Monday April 15. The passengers however, had a miraculous escape, as only a few of them were left with nicks, cuts, and bruises.

One of the buses was bound for Mumbai, while the destination of two other buses was Udupi. The incident occurred, when the driver of a private bus moving from Shirva to the town suddenly applied brakes. As a result, a private express bus coming from Mangalore hit the earlier bus from behind. The Mumbai-bound bus that was next in the line, hit the express bus.

The service bus, because of the impact of the accident, got shoved to the other side of the divider. The accident would have turned into a tragedy, had there been heavy traffic on the opposite lane at that time. As no vehicles were moving at that point of time at the accident site, further loss of lives and property was averted.

Traffic on the national highway came to a standstill. Policemen led by assistant sub-inspector of police, Gourishankar, who was posted at Katapadi outpost, arrived on the spot and put in efforts to lend a semblance of orderliness to the traffic.  A case was registered in Kaup police station thereafter.

I travel regularly to Bangalore in VRL buses and so far I have not seen such a thing happen to VRL buses . The Drivers are Professional drivers and then know how to handle the vehicle well .
This could be out of situation with our Mangalore errant drivers where the other vehicle's drivers could not help much.

These are routine on NH 66 Yet the authorities are least bothered as Public is silent. Elected representatives get their mamool and also the RTO and Police. Insurance and Courts plus lawyers are also happy. What is the solution ?

No problem if buses collide each other, they deserve it coz of their reckless driving..But no passengers should be harmed or killed.. Now no police who stops reckless driving neither BD activists....

As long as no one wants maintian the safe distance between vehicls this will continue.

No proper training, guidlines, rules is the main cause.

Is any driving instructor knows what is safe distance between each vehicle?

a)When 50 KMP speed distance 5 times a vehicle size

B)When 60 KMP speed distance 6 times of the vehicle length

c)Same way it should continue like 100 KMH speed distence should be 10 times of the vehicle length.

On the Highways accidents takes place due to the drivers mind distraction.First of all the private( express) busses plying from Mangalore to Udipi based on the commission basis. The more the collection more the income. The competition is natural. If they reach late to spot the starter's problems. And the passenger's too wants to reach the destination as early as they could. This is not only in the highways, one can see in the cities too, and other rural lines. Once the passenger boarded in the bus he is not sure of reaching his destination. He may have to wait for call from the Most High. When he reaches his point he must be giving thanks for his life. There is also law and order lacks. Police, D.C. cannot implement the terms. They will be transfered to the remote places. In other way we can say our total systems is no good.No minister or the deputies are honest. To get the work done faster we give them bribe. Firstly you and me has to be corrected our selves, and then our children and our surrounding. But we are all aware of these things bot none of us are following. Where as we critisize and pass our coments quickly. I hope our future generation will wake up soon and lead our country on the right path.

This is what happens when Indians with their Driving Skills are left to drive on "Sheikh Zayed Road" Type highways in India.

RTO should first train Indians to follow proper driving etiquette, before building superhighways.

We ask for better and wide roads. Are we matured enough to use these good roads? I think NO. In the two lane highways, we can see over loaded trucks and tankers occupying fast lanes. Busses parking on middle of the road, Bikers riding as if saving their life is responsibility of 4 wheelers. Pedestrians crossing highways at every points. Autos coming from opposite direction on one ways. Cars overtaking dangerously with head lights on. We need to change our driving habits. We need strict implementation of strict traffic rules.

I totally agree with Mr.Sreekesh & Bryan..registering a case will not make any changes..there has to be a way out..disciplinary actions should be taken and with immediate effect.

These drivers are nothing but retarded, their bus and driving license should be confiscated for six months and a hefty fine after the bus is claimed by the owner. This is the only solution.
