Karkala, Apr 17: India's star commentator and former Test cricketer made his sixth visit to Lord Mahavishnumurty Temple and Nagabana in Karvalu near here on Wednesday April 17.

Busy with IPL cricket commentary, Shastri arrived from Bangalore, after commentating in the exciting Bangalore - Hyderabad match in Bangalore on Tuesday night.

Shastri’s ancestors belonged to Karvalu, and the above deities are the ones they reposed faith in, and used to worship as family deities. He had visited the place seven years ago along with his wife, and offered special puja to the serpent god. The couple, which had remained without any issue for long, got it’s daughter, Alaika, thereafter. Since then, he has been visiting the place annually and performing puja here.

He offered special puja and performed other rituals this time too.

On the occasion, Temple Trust president Somashekar Rao felicitated Shastri with a shawl.

Manohar Prasad, well known journalist, who is also a relative of Ravi Shastri spoke about former cricketer and his annual visit to Karvalu.

"Ravi has great faith in his ancestral place, the temple and the people here. He is a great devotee of this Temple," said Prasad.

Later speaking to daijiworld, Shastri said that through IPL, lots of young players are getting a chance to enter the national team.

In reference to some of the recent on-field controversies, he said, "The recent spat between Indian players was not serious. On the field, such things happen sometimes, but when the players get back to the dressing room, they forget the on-field differences. Even I used to do same during my cricketing day."

"India will do well in the South Africa tour which is scheduled for this year end. I had earlier predicted that India would beat Australia, and that is what happened," he said.

"Hard work, focus, and consistency make a successful cricketer," he said.

I fully agree with the author of this. It is a brilliant suggestion and a practical one too. A city like Mangalore still does not have a full fledged cricket stadium, which is recognized by the BCCI, whilst cities like Nagpur, Indore, Cuttack do have world class stadiums

Ravi Bhasker Shenava, DK cannot produce national level cricketers because DK has no ability to provide an international cricket ground. Can we have Ranji matches in Udupi / Mangalore? There is no ability to produce a 160 Meter diameter boundary and another 100 meter for spectators!! Few years back it was easy. Now finding a 20 acre land with several approach roads is a tough ask!!

As suggested by Rakesh B & Ramakrishna Mangalore, Ravi Can take up some social work. But it is better if he invests his Money and Labour in the field in which he already excels, that is Cricket.

Our DK-Udupi district has never produced even a single Test level Cricketer even though tall height and sturdy physic of Mangaloreans has given them advantage over rest of the South Indians (except Corgis). Tuluvas like Rama Sundaram, Buddi Kundaran, Ravi Shastry , Anil Kumble and also Karwaaris like Bapu Nadkarni, Manjrekar , Suru Nayak, Salil Ankola, could come up in Test-Cricket only because they Went out of their native place, to Mumbai/Bengaluru.

So, Ravi Shastry you should set up Cricket Training Academy in Mangalore/Udupi/Karkala to train & guide the youngsters of our Coastal dists.

Just like 'Annual College Day'this is becoming annual news. Wonder Why?.
    This is Mr.Shastri's private affair.
No need of giving it publicity every year.Once was enough.

Every enlightened human being undertakes some social welfare schemes to his native place ?
Have you heard anything specific or significant contribution from Ravianna. If yes, God Bless him. If no, for whom all his wealth if not some part of it is given development for his own native place ?

    You are right Rakesh B.
Every successful man should try to emulate Encounter Specialist of Mumbai DAYA NAYAK, who has constructed Primary School for Poor children in his native place - Ennehole near same Karkala instead of spending money on only Pujas.

The women with Blue dotted saree standing next to Ravi is his own Chikkamma named Kavita Shastry, who was Head Mistress of a renowned High School in Mangalore till she retired last year. She is a renowned Educationist for which Lions Club has falicitated her. So Ravi can take her guidance and help set up good School or College in his native place Karvalu. Besides Ravi's uncle Santhosh Shastri is also Ayurveda Doctor whose guidance also can be taken for Social Work in his native place. After all his relative-Journalist Manohar Prasad is always there to help.

Undivided South Canara’s outside settled hotel owners / builders / entrepreneurs or sometimes underworld connected goondas have enough black money so they do huge contributions!!! May be there are some exceptional cases!! But why we expect from Ravi Shastri to do such things? It should be ones voluntary & no one can insists such things…

I am still the fan of Ravi Shatri's Sixers.Good to see a successfull TULUVA of international fame, not forgetting his routes and respecting & following the traditions.
Unlike some people, who feel following their traditions is being outdated and LS.
