Mangalore: Murder of bank manager - Two in custody, robbery suspected

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 20: The police, who have taken up investigation into the murder of Anjana, working as assistant manager in Syndicate Bank Katipalla branch since the last some months, on Thursday April 18 morning, have continued their efforts to find out the whereabouts of Mahesh, who has been accused of committing this crime.

Mahesh, who used to do the work of fish frying in the food section of a mall, also had worked in the security department of a hotel in the city in the past. On the day of the murder too he had fried the fish at the joint, but has gone missing thereafter. The fact that he had not provided his permanent address at both these places have hindered the smooth progress of police investigation.

In this respect, they have taken into custody Ravi, working in a firm in the city and who was Mahesh’s friend and roommate, apart from another person, who also shared the room.

Anjana, originally from Malappuram district in Kerala, was found murdered in a room hired by Ravi at Bejai Kapikad in the city. Mahesh, who was living in the room with Ravi and another person, and who reportedly used to frequent malls in the city in the company of Anjana, has gone missing ever since she was killed in his room. The police are also enquiring about the reasons for the absence of the two roommates of Mahesh at the time of murder in their room.

Anjana’s vanity bag, gold chain, and mobile phone have gone missing, giving rise to suspicions whether robbery was the motive. The police are not taking any chances, and have also undertaken investigation from different angles, including whether there was involvement of more persons in the murder.

It is gathered that Anjana lived in the bank quarters at Gandhinagar in the city along with her mother. Her father is working in a bank in Kerala, and she is survived by a brother.

I fully agree with Tapashi. Anjana was one of the most wonderful persons I have ever met. Her kind heartedness and child-like innocence has given her this in return. Let us for once stop blaming the victim and take the culprit to task. Anjana has gone forever but at least let it be a lesson for the mean world not to commit such crimes in future.

I am heartbroken to see such filth being spread about a person who was one of the kindest people i ever knew. I used to know Anjana personally. She was the kind of girl who would speak what's in her heart. She believed in the goodness in humanity and this is how she is being repaid. Forget outer layers of personality, I have never even seen her wear make-up. She once gave her salary away to an old man whose sons would not look after him. when she met that wretched bastard, she did not look at what he did for a living or what his background was. that's what happens when you try to be good in a filthy world. Now I'm happy she's not a part of THIS world anymore. she had known him only two months, and last month she told me on phone how she felt that she had made a wrong decision about this guy.

now her 12 year old brother reads all this filth and asks me questions i have no answers to. even her parents question her character.

when she went to his place there probably wasn't even an inkling of dirt in her mind like all the filth you're spewing all over the place. i wonder how going to his place justifies his murdering her!

go ahead make a mockery out of her death. and make guesses about her life and actions. tomorrow you'll forget her and get busy spewing filth about other people. i consider you a part of the filth that took her life.

in our hearts she will live on with the goodness of her heart and the beauty of her thoughts and actions.

For all I know, she's in a better place now, and I will give her the respect she deserves.

    1. Do you know if SHE knew he was a fish seller/if he had told her his real identity?
    2. (If yes) Love is about a 'connection' which does not see status, religion, caste etc. In most cases things work out well (in marriage) but this may have gone wrong. Who doesn't want to feel loved? But this does not give YOU free reign to slander her image.
    3. Do you know the real reason she went to his house? Did he blackmail her into going there? Did he intend to murder her or was it accidental?
    4. A few people mentioned that she should have told her parents. Most parents are not okay with relationships, let alone going to the partner's house. Our society also does not allow display of affection in public. Too much suppression leads to extremity. If parents want to hear the truth, they should be willing to LISTEN patiently, without getting angry.
    5. Even if she was in love with someone who was from a different class, even if she went to his place at nightIn NO WAY does this justify MURDER. This is similar to blaming the Delhi victim for her own rape. BLAME the ACT, not the VICTIM.

Everyone makes mistakes, some intentional some unintentional, difference is that we are lucky to get away with it. Please be empathetic to her situation, without judging.

Everytime I exhort young girls to avoid uncessary company of young men. Where was the need for Anjana to be in the company of those youngsters, why she visited their room at Bijai. Ladies and girls should always take care of themselves, otherwise they have to pay the price for it.

The employer who appointed this person Mahesh should be taken to task. How a outlet situated in a busy shopping mall appoint a person and do not keep any documents of his whereabouts. For some it might be a joke, but surely its a very unsafe practice. Any antisocial element can easily start working in a outlet in the mall and get involved in a bigger crime or antisocial activity in the Mall itself. The malls should pass strict instruction to their occupants to provide full details of every person working for them

I was very disappointed to see puns and shayaris in the comments.A girl has been murdered, for god's sake! Are you inhumane? There is a time and place for jokes and light heartedness- THIS IS NOT IT!
I pray for her family. I hope that none of you commenting here experience the loss of a child (and a situation where strangers, who knew absolutely nothing about your child, speculate on his/her death and relationships)
Please let the police do their investigation, if you are so eager on guessing why or how, do it in your mind-not in a public forum.
I am disgusted by the insensitivity in the comments! And to see some people enjoying and encouraging this insensitive behaviour has left me enraged.

Dear Neeta..I agree with you but can't support your comment. Here, first we should think about girl's job and responsibility. Being a bank manager she should followed some basic principles. Bank Manager is a public figure, he/she should maintain his/her dignity. Being a Bank Manager and having relationship with Fish Frier is a nonsense..Thats why most of the readers commented in negative way which you didn't like.

The murdered girl is a Asst Manager in a Public Sector Bank who ought to be reasonable, responsible by virtue of code of conduct governing the post she held. She is also custodian of the public money and her aquaintence with low class north Indian boy makes unbecoming of post she held. The who episode happened only because of he foolishness or you can call it as "Charbi"in our language for which nobody needs to be mourned except her parents.Dont become to much sensitive for senseless acts by bindaswalas....

Dear all, It is stange to read being a educated Bank official she had an affair with Fish fry man. By going through the article I recollected a proverb from our ancestor's of costal region of DK in TULU language LABA..IJJANDI..***RY..BOLLADU..POVAYE. (100% true)which suits for the article. Because she was killed in boys house. The known fact is most of the white collar jobs only for dignity and TAX net.See the earnings of petty scrap, fish, butchers. Veg/fruit merchants, Real estate brokers, paanwalas their income is tremendous with small/zero investment.Ration shop, wine shop their income is countless as a result they have to pay a good bribe to concerned authorites to get the lisence this is the stucture of the present generation
    MONEY IS WHOLE & SOLE.

Friendship between Asst Bank Manager and Fish Fryer..! Stil I can't believe it. He might be giving her Pomfret Masala Fry daily (Free).Let us take minimum Rs.250 for Pomfret Fry,Then one month bill comes around Rs.7500/- which is a gift from Mr.Fish Fryer.Anyway,he is not the owner of the shop,so he is not going to loose anything..So,that might be the reason behind their love or friendship..I can't guess anything beyond that..
