Udupi, Apr 24: In a gruesome accident which occurred near Salem in Tamil Nadu on Monday April 22 afternoon, three persons belonging to a family from Alevoor near here lost their lives on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Ananth Naik (47), his wife, Varija (42), and the couple’s only offspring, Adhokshaja (17).

Ananth Naik worked as a commercial auditor in Bangalore, while his wife, whose native place was Udupi, was employed with Life Insurance Corporation of India’s divisional office in Indira Nagar.  Adhokshaja, who had passed first PU with science subjects, was a nationally recognized Karateka, with several prizes and certificates under his belt. Sources said he was practicing for the upcoming international Karate championship scheduled to be held at Singapore soon.

The family resided in Ayyappa extension of K R Puram in Bangalore. The three persons named above had visited a pilgrimage centre near Salem on Sunday and were returning in their WagonR car to Bangalore, when the car jumped down from a bridge.  No specific reasons could be attributed to the accident, and no other vehicle appears to have hit the ill-fated one.

Ananth Naik had bought the said car about five years back. As he used to visit his native place in his car often, he had good experience of driving the vehicle for long distances. At the time of accident, Ananth was at the wheel. There are theories which attribute the accident to the sudden puncture of the tyre or vehicle losing its course while trying to give way to some other vehicle. Ananth had told the family that he would reach Alevoor on Tuesday to drop his son in Alevoor to enable the boy to spend time with grandparents in view of summer holidays.

Ananth’s old-aged parents live at Honnekody in Alevoor.  Ananth’s brother, Sadanand Naik, who too lives in Bangalore, went to Salem to claim the body. Sadanand has taken up the responsibility of claiming the body and bringing it here. Ananth Naik is survived by parents, a brother, and three sisters.

Very sad to go thru such a news.May their souls rest in peace. Roads in Salem ,Mettur and remote areas of Tamilnadu are very tricky which have un-expected HUGE DIP in the middle of the roads, with out any road signs and are not at all visible from quite a small distance even AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE CONTROLLED WHEN COME CLOSE TO THE DIP SUDDENLY.I too had a very bad experience on the way from Mettur to OOTY old road during the RALLY-DE-ENDURANCE car rally.
