Kasargod, May 11: The local police have arrested a student on the charges of opening bank accounts by providing fake documents online, and then defrauding two banks to the extent of over three lac rupees by raising loans, and enticing people into remitting money to his account.

The arrested student has been identified as Fazil (19), a BBM degree student and resident of Ulloor Neerayi Line in Thiruvananthapuram.

The arrest was made by a police team led by local deputy superintendent of police, Mohanchandran Nair, and circle inspector, C K Sunil Kumar.

Fazil reportedly used the driving licence issued in the name of Abdul Zunair Muneer from Hosangady, and created certain papers with this as the base. By using these documents, he raised loans from two different banks in Kasargod and Kozhikode. Muneer had reportedly lost his driving licence sometime back.

Using internet, Fazil had given advertisement about sale of costly cell phones and other equipment which he said were in his possession. A number of persons, including some from Bangalore and Mysore, on getting attracted by his offers, had remitted money to his account. After realizing that they had been taken for a ride, they had filed police complaints.

The policemen, after checking the internet details and bank accounts, had subjected Muneer to interrogation. Through Muneer, they could lay hands on Fazil.  Fazil, who is pursuing BBM course in a Mangalore-based college, also is learnt to have raised education loans from the above two banks.
