IAS aspirant commits suicide after 'goof up' in UPSC results

Bangalore, May 12 (PTI): A 24-year-old IAS aspirant allegedly committed suicide, with the police stating that he was upset over a 'goof-up' in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) results published here.

Manjunath V Y, a resident of Shrirampura in the city, committed suicide by hanging himself in an under construction building on May 10 after he had left for his friend's house in Kodagu area, they said.

According to the police, Manjunath was upset over finding a different name under his roll number in the list of selected candidates in this year's civil services examination.

The victim had secured 264th rank in the examination, but in the final results after the interview, a different name was mentioned under his roll number on the list, they said.

A shocked Manjunath then contacted UPSC officials and also wrote to them seeking clarification over the 'mix-up' in the result.

Since there was allegedly no response, he took the extreme step, police added.

Compared to previous year this year UPSC general studies was more unique as one could solve 20-30 questions based on general knowledge & newspaper. Students were more prepared this year and the paper lacked in depth conceptual questions.Questions asked on polity were more obvious except the ones with combinations of options. But that shouldn't trouble IAS aspirants as one could score high without even attempting them. Polity questions related to Prime Minister, Supreme & Rajya Sabha without combinational options were very easy and one should have scored them. You can find more on www.upsc4all.com

So sad! Academically intelligent but no patience and belief in God's plan for him!
That is why I believe, nation needs more of scriptural knowledge and education which can reduce crime and suicidal tendencies.

May his soul rest in peace..But this boy is definitely not fit for IAS..! Getting certificate is not the end of the world. One has to face challenges and win over it.That is the main aim of life and not IAS..He gave a wrong signal to society..very sorry
