Riyadh: Embassy releases passports of overstaying Indians

Media Release

Riyadh, May 14: The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has received around fifteen thousand passports of Indian nationals from the Saudi authorities. Most of these passports have been surrendered by the sponsors of Indian workers to the Saudi authorities.

The Embassy has uploaded a list of these passports on its website at www.indianembassy.org.sa.

These passports can be collected from the Embassy between 6 pm on Monday May 13 and 9 pm on Saturday May 18 except on Fridays.

All Indian nationals who have lost their passports may verify their passport number from this list and approach the Embassy with their passport numbers, serial and packet numbers as given in the list.  A copy of the passport may be brought along to collect the passport. Passport will be returned only to the holder in person and not to any representative.

Those who are unable to collect their passport directly may contact the Embassy on its helpline numbers 01 4884697, 01 4881982, 0501699879, 0501700106, 0501699895, 0501699894.

Good work by Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
We appreciate Indian Embassy's concern and help to thousands of Indians working in Saudi.
Unless our people help, who else will help us?
I believe, such help especially during crisis will definitely generate patriotism to the nation!

It's now good opportunity for people to venture out from saudi arabia..due to harassemnt from there sponsors in one or other way..!! Just surrender to Indian Embassy...they themselves approach 'sponsor'..and try to send back people asap. Some people whose 'sponsor' is not available and are not having passport..will given 'temporary passport' to reach India..and issue afterwards new passport..!! Good steps taken by Embassy..really appreciated..as it's an hard task..!! Cannot able to send wrong person who is involved in illegal matter..so detailed scrutiny will be made. We are with you guys..who are returning to India..required to look for new job...at least you will land in safe place..and will be in midst of family members..wh are much worried..!!!

Only those person knows who go abroad for sake of family members..and difficulties faced to earn there income..!! If by mistakenly land in jail..things go worse than hell..only suits for people involved..in business of 'som-raas'..!!

come back..aapke vatan aapke intezaar me hai..

I wish one of the passport belonged to one of your relative. Cyril and Sachidanada shetty should try to understand ( being working in Dubai )how the Passports have landed In Indian Embassy. These passports have been handed over to Local authorities by their sponsors by falsely charging that that the Indian worker is missing from the work. All these stranded Indian brothers were not able to visit their families in India. Try to learn to appreciate the good work done by Indian Embassy instead of kidding

    CYRIL MASCARENHAS, KIREM/MIRA ROAD/DUBAI,

THERE MUST BE A LIMIT FOR EVERYTHING. INSTEAD OF APPRECIATING THE AUTHORITIES CONCERNED, YOU ARE MAKING FUN. BEING WORKING IN DUBAI YOU ARE STILL NOT REALIZING THE FACT MEANS IT DISGUSTING. LET THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO YOU AND THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE PAIN. IF YOU LOST PASSPORT / ABSCONDING FROM YOUR WORK / SOMEONE MISUSED YOUR PASSPORT / YOU ARE HELD AT THE AIRPORT AND PUT YOU BEHIND BARS WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SITUATION. WHY DONT YOU UNDERSTAND WORKING UNDER LEGAL SYSTEM IS NOT SIMILAR TO THE ACT OF TERRORISM. THERE CERTAIN NORMS TO BE FOLLOWED, IN ADDITION OUR COUNTRY HAS TO FOLLOW THE RULES AND POLICIES OF OTHER COUNTRIES, SPECIALLY IN THIS CASE SAUDI ARABIA WHERE RULES ARE TOUGH COMPARING TO DUBAI AND OTHER GULF COUNTRIES. SIMPLY DONT PASS YOUR COMMENTS IN THIS FORUM JUST BECAUSE ANYONE CAN COMMENT HERE.

Right! the embassy is off on a Friday, when such a sensitive matter is going on. Do they have any idea for e.g. an employee of a construction company would be off only on a friday and other days he works more than 12hours where will he have the time to collect it? and do you think the company is going to provide transportation for him go and collect it? huh come on guys work on the logic dont think about your comfort for a while!

Ajith, You hava a valid point. The Embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah should remain open on weekend too, to extend maximum possible support to stranded indian citizens.
