Bangalore: First session of 14th Assembly from May 29, says CM

Bangalore, May 18: The first session of the newly constituted 14th assembly is likely to be convened from May 29, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah indicated to reporters on Saturday.

Speaking the reporters after the first meeting of his cabinet following the induction of 28 ministers, he said the inaugural session of the new assembly is “most likely to be convened from May 29.”

The Chief Minister chaired the first meeting of his cabinet after its expansion with the induction of 20 Cabinet rank Ministers and eight Ministers of State.

Veteran Congress leader and former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa would be elected as the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, he said.

Thimmappa won the assembly elections from Sagar constituency in Shimoga district.

All the newly elected MLAs would be formally taking oath as members in the assembly, which would be administered by the new speaker. The new speaker will be appointing a panel of presiding officers to assist him in the task.

It is, however, not known whether the speaker’s election will be followed by holding election to the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, a post carrying the rank and perks of a minister of state.

Incidentally, the Chief Minister will be required to appoint a person from the ruling Congress legislature party as the Government Chief Whip, who will also enjoy the status and perks of a minister.

The Cabinet, which met for about 45 minutes, authorised the Chief Minister to take decisions on administrative matters and holding of the State legislature session.

Responding to questions on the non-inclusion of members of the Legislative Council in to the Cabinet, Siddaramaiah said an MLC would be inducted into the Cabinet soon.

He, however, did not indicate when the minister would be inducted.

Several Congress members of the Upper House, including Veeranna Mathikatti and S R Patil, both of whom belong to the Lingayat community, are hot contenders for ministerial berths.

Generally, the leader of the House in the Upper should be member of that House and the Minister, the chief minister said and made it clear that he would take steps to ensure that.

To a question on non-inclusion of tainted ministers in the Cabinet, the Chief Minister said the Ministers’ list was approved by the party high command and he had no role in the formation of the Ministry.

Soon after the Cabinet meeting, several ministers spoke to the press and expressed their happiness for being included in the Council of Ministry.

The Ministers said they would accept any portfolio that may be allocated by the Chief Minister and discharge their duties in the interest of the State.

Minister R V Deshpande said some of his colleagues in the party were unhappy for denying Cabinet berths to some former Ministers.

Among the Congress legislators D K Shivakumr and Anil Lad, who could not find ministerial berths despite strong lobbying, are reportedly cut up at being ignored.

How come they made Shivashankarappa a Minister at the age of 81 ? The man cannot even walk without help. Instead they could have chosen J.R.Lobo.

This is my observation and i haver seen this many times. People who are in BJP and people who support BJP party are always double standard, Speak lies like as if they are saying the truth, Do mistakes and will never repent for it, do mischief and do not accept it. Just as you see in this example like Jeevan, Dinesh Poojary, Nagesh nayak, Ravi Ullal, RSS, BJP, VHP, BD etc. They always says lies and never accept their mistakes. Sometimes I really feel pity, disgusting on comments coming from jeevan and dinesh. Accept the fact that people in karnataka needs peace and development and development does not means modi development who in order to hide his crime is doing all sort of project etc. Dear friends please correct me if I am wrong

I think Dinesh Poojary stays at Taj West End or ITC Gardania while in Bangalore. That is the reason why he has not faced water problem in Bangalore.

The desperation of the opposition party & its hard-core adherents is understandable. The Congress, apart from a comfortable win has followed up with (a) quick & non-problematic ion of CM (b)a balanced & efficient team of Ministers, excluding the tainted persons (c) announced a couple of pro-people/pro-poor measures with clear sign that they will DELIVER - All this is bad news for the concerned party which is unlikely to recover fully as the country races to the General elections in 2014!

    @Dinesh Poojary,Bangalore,

Being in Bangalore, am surprised by your statement saying "Last 5 years Bangalore had no water scarcity at all???!!! Big joke.

Look at the statistics on the number of borewells people have been digging in their properties since 5 years in "record numbers" which itself speak about the pathetic way BJP handled the water situation in B'Lore, and the rest of the state.

I am also wondering how do you expect JRL to survey the water situation without visiting Thumbe and by sitting at his own house like your BJP ministers did when Karnataka suffered both floods and famine in the sate ((let me remind you that your BJP didnt even do the least they should have done to solve this problem)) had it not been been for the generosity of philanthropists such as Infosys etc.!!!

You should be thankful that JRL took the responsibility to survey the situation and informed the media the measures he took so that the affected people will have peace of mind.

Regarding your Yogish and Raghupati Bhatt, the less said the better. Jai Hind.

I think BEST EVER CM AND CABINET MINISTERS in the recent past history of the Karnataka politics .DK has reason to smile as it's four TULUVAs were made it to cabinet. These four powerful ministers will do no stone un turned to get maximum projects to the undivided districts of DK/Udupi.

I THINK MR VASANTH BANGERA OF BELTHANGADY CONSTITUENCY WILL LIKELY TO GET CHIEF WHIP AS HE HAD EXPERIENCE IN THE POST IN J.DAL GOVT.ANYHOW,14th ASSEMBLY WILL DO NEEDFUL TO BRING KARNATAKA NUMERO UNO IN FIELDS INCLUDING LAW AND ORDER.

Last 5 years Bangalore had no water scarcity. But this year it started already though we are seeing heavy sporadic rains in Bangalore from last 20-25 days.

These jokers does not seem to solve water problem. They will keep fighting, burning buses, pelting stones, leg pulling etc etc.

Take some suggestion from former Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar and get the problem resolved asap.

Mangalore also facing same problem. Please take suggestions from Yogish Bhat and Raghupathi Bhat in Udupi. Visiting Tumbay dam and getting media attention is not the solution. People need water, not your media statements. Work silently like Yogish Bhat.
