Mangalore: Harekala Hajabba's life to inspire undergraduate students

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 7: The inspiring story of Harekala Hajabba, a hawker who was responsible for starting a government school in his village, will now be a topic for study at the undergraduate level.

The textbook committee of Mangalore University led by Dr Abhaya Kumar has revised 11 Kannada textbooks for first year degree and second semester. In the 'Nudivani' textbook for first BCom, the story of Hajabba's life has been included.

The lesson is an extract from the book 'Harekala Hajabbara Jeevana Charitre' written by Ismat Fajir, said Dr Abhaya Kumar.

Hajabba's life story is already a topic in Davangere and Shimoga Kuvempu University textbooks.

The decision to revise the textbooks was taken at the special meeting of the education council at the new Senate hall at Mangalore University. The meeting was presided over by University vice-chancellor Prof Shivashankar Murthy. Textbooks for all degree courses will be revised.

Hajabba was instrumental in setting up a primary school in his native village near Mangalore by saving his earnings from selling oranges.

This is an amazing "Orange Seller" I am truly inspired by his work. His life inspires the younger generation. he has created everything from nothing without the backing of any God, God Father, If he had nothing and still created everything then what is the problem for those who everything yet don't create anything for the marginalised? Hajabba May your tribe increase and your life be a true inspiration to the future generation. I am truly your well wisher and fan.

The story of Sir Hajabba can be compared like this. Here a person saved money from his meager income to start a school that too a government institution and educate poor childrens of the society. There in DK our so called rich, making education a family business by pumping money only to reap millions and millions giving clear message to society that only rich and affulent only can get higher education. We salute you Sir Hajabba , this world get going only because of people like you still exist in unknown corners.

While hailing the selfless service of Hajjabba towards promoting education in his village, I hope our great politicians and rich people take a lesson from the life of Hajjabba. Here we have selfless man saving money from his meager earnings through selling Oranges, promoting education and we also have politicians and rich people, amassing wealth and hoarding it in the Swiss banks. What an irony. Pray Almighty God may bless this gentleman profusely and may his tribe of selfless service people increase.
