Mangalore: Procession marks initiation of Maroli Temple renovation

Mangalore, Jul 7: The first load of stones for the renovation of the Shree Surya Narayana Temple, Maroli, arrived in the city from Tamil Nadu on Sunday, July 7, thus giving a grand initiation to the renovation of the largest territorial bound temple, comprising of 7 villages under it.

The lorry laden with stones was given a grand welcome at Pumpwell and taken to the temple in a procession that included dolls, chende sets and Nasik banks flanked by a huge crowd.

A formal stage programme was also held at Pumpwell to mark the event. Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank, spoke on the occasion and conveyed his best wishes and prayed for the success of the project.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Ganesh Bangera, MD, G B Constructions, K C Naik, MD, Mahabaleshwara Promoters and Builders, Giridhar Bhat, chief priest of Radha Krishna Temple, J V Seetharam, chairman, J V Sons Group, Monappa Bhandary, MLC, Balakrishna Suvarna, MD, MB Suvarna Builders and Developers, Tarethota, corporators Keshava, Sabitha Misquith, Praveenchandra Alva and Asha Greta D’Silva, Chittaranjan, Garodi temple president, Balakrishna Kottary, Maroli temple president, K P Shetty, Maroli Temple renovation committee president, Giridhar Shetty, Purushotham Rai, Alwyn D'Silva, Pradep Kumar Shetty and others were present.

The procession was given a traditional start by the dignitaries by breaking the coconut. The procession passed through Capitanio, Garodi and Nagori, and culminated at Maroli Temple.

A special puja was offered for the sets of stones that arrived at the Temple.

As per plans, Maroli Temple will be renovated completely at an approximate cost of Rs 15 crore. This includes purchase of land close to the Temple, and construction of a community hall. The project is expected to complete in two years.

    Gud to hear tht sri suryanaraya temple maroli is goin to have jeernoddhara.... felt nice to see the people from my locality in the procession... nice pics brijesh garodi... missing mangalore a lot :-(

    THESE ARE OUR ICONS OF HERITAGE AND MONUMENTS OF RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE.
    I AM VERY HAPPY THAT THE REVERRED TEMPLE OF PEACE IS HAVING A FACELIFT.
    BUT ARCHITECTS IN CHARGE MUST TRY TO RETAIN WHATEVER CAN BE RETAINED.
