Udupi, Jul 8: In an effort to bring underprivileged children into schools, the district officials led by zilla panchayat CEO Prabhakar Sharma on Monday July 8 paid a suprise visit to Nittur and Beedinagudde areas and conducted inspection.

Sharma was accompanied by officials of the labour department, women and child welfare department, the education department and the social welfare department.

During the visit, the officials interacted with the area residents, chiefly made of labourers, and explained to them the facilities provided by the government to school going children.

A few residents complained that lack of facilities had prevented them from sending their children to school. "There is no conveyance facility and only one auto rickshaw is available, because of which only a few can go to school. Also, in some of the anganvadis, food is not served properly or regularly," they said.

In reponse, Sharma said that their problems will be looked into and appropriate measures will be taken to solve them.

Speaking to reporters, Prabhakar Sharma said that the officials found three school dropouts, and that arrangements will be made to get them back into school.

"The government has provided several facilities like hostel and mid-day meals to children to encourage them to go to school. These were explained to the residents so that more children get enrolled," he said.

In the coming days, the officials will visit other places in the district to identify dropouts and children who have been deprived of education. Efforts will be made to bring maximum number of children into schools, he added.

Ravi Kumar R, Ramachandra H, Prabhakar Achar and other officials were present.

What a novel scheme! Poor underprivileged children, make use of the opportunity and continue the education. Sure one day it will pay you in many folds. Education is very important for your future. Good luck.

Congress please do not stop here. Explore other areas where poor need your help.

Laudable effort by the authorities. Thanks for that.

    Look at other aspects too.
Children will not miss school, if it is a place, where they are engaged positively.
Every new day, should have promise of new learning, innovative learning, acceptance of their knowledge, encouragement for them to think and voice.
They will overcome any hurdle, conveyance, mid-day meal, parents or anybody, if they are pulled like a magnet to the school.

Teachers have lot more to do, to keep the children engaged.
