Mangalore, Jul 8: Due to the heavy and continuous rainfall experienced in the district over the past couple of days, instances of damage to property have been reported in various parts of the city.

MLA of Mangalore South Constituency J R Lobo visited the affected areas in the city on Monday July 8 accompanied by corporators, party leaders, and workers.

A house owned by Vasanthi Nayak, a widow, living with her two children in Kadevu of Shivanagara, Alape Padil, was partially damaged due to the impact of the landslides that occurred behind the house on Sunday July 7.

The need for a railway crossing is another major problem faced by the public in Kandevu of Kanagudde. Nearly 100 houses have no appropriate access to reach the main road. They need to cross a railway track and negotiate their way through the trains that are always parked near Padil Railway Junction.

Lobo spoke to the station master, who urged the former to discuss this issue with Dasan, the area manager of Mangalore Railways. Lobo promised the public to do the needful at the earliest.

He later paid a visit to Kulshekar, Kannagudde, Saripalla Road via Suryanagara, Kalai, Kandevu, Nooji, Umikan, and other areas that have been affected.

Daily commuters and vehicles are facing a lot of problems due to the major pot holes on the road. The road comes under the railway limits and hence, they are neither developing it nor permitting the city corporation or the state government to do so. This is a major problem that has been faced for many years. This road is an arterial one connecting more than 2,000 houses.

He also visited a rain damaged house in Sutarpete near Valencia. The house belongs to Umavathi, Savitha, and Ganesh. Umavathi has sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Lobo urged the revenue inspector to prepare a report on the total damage and to do the needful.  He also urged Ganesh to  give a written complaint to the department concerned in the City Corporation.

Regarding the railway issues in the city, Lobo said that he would form a team and soon visit the South Railway Division in Palakkad and discuss the issue with the railway officials.

He was accompanied by corporators Prakash and Appilatha, leaders Dennis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Mohan Mendon, Krithin Kumar, revenue inspectors, village accountant, officials, and others were present.

it's really a good sign by our new MLA. That gives confidence to us the public. But please ute it from end to end and ensure the commitments you have given to these people are keptsir. I am sure if you really made your mind to help these people, nothing can stop. You can very well come to public if something really stops you from doing the needful. we can also fight along with you such negative forces. Meanwhile, give clear alerts to all contractors and engineers who are uting your projects as no malpractise will be entertained and quality work is delivered by them. there should be a clear fear on these people that MLA will question if any failure on their utions. Penalise them if any issue you observe in their project utions. automatically all the problems will be resolved. For example... you see the recent patch works done on NH..near Fisheries college, near MCF ... all the patch works are gone for toss for the first rain itself. why the contractors are not held responsible and penalised. they should repair it for free of cost since they are responsible for these disasters... I am sure you are on right track and we can achieve a greater Mangalore n your tenure.

Due to ever changing weather patterns -the civil engineers- architects- designers -builders have to take care of nature.
Change the building CODES withstand various weather patterns like hurricane-lightning-thunder- rain deluge-other natural calamities.
Have strict building codes-construct solid structures .
ex: learn from japanese -how their high rise towers will sway along with wind direction during earthquake s-
    Rubberized foundations.
We need to introduce recent-modern construction methods- building materials -for 100% safety along with home owners insurance for damages.
