UAE, Qatar, Oman, other Arab states to fund minorities in Karnataka

Bangalore, Jul 15 (IANS): Nearly 20 Arab states have pledged to improve the welfare of minorities in Karnataka with financial aid to young entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises and for empowering women.

"About 20 Arab nations in West Asia and Africa have committed to grant Rs.8 million this year to fund minority entrepreneurs, help young women become self-reliant and educate the youth," Indo-Arab Chamber of Commerce executive director Asif Iqbal told IANS.

Among the states that have pledged help are Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

A delegation of the chamber recently met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here and offered support to the government's various minority programmes.

With offices in Dubai and Muscat, the chamber has about 330 members, including 130 from across the Arab states.

"We assured the state government that we will facilitate more investment to Karnataka from the Arab world," Iqbal said.

"A 250-member trade delegation from the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) will visit the state to participate in the TAB (Transcending Arabian Borders) 2013 conference here in August," he said.

"About 20 Arab nations in West Asia and Africa have committed to grant Rs.8 million this year to fund minority entrepreneurs". It is a shame and peanut to receive Rs 80 lakhs from oil rich arab states like UAE, Qatar, Oman, other Arab states to fund minorities in Karnataka. These Arabs are poor in calculation or must be calculating @ Rs1 /kilo of rice. Instead of this they could distribute sewing machines to poor ladies without discriminating minorities and majority. Also they could build Hospitals and Schools for poor in Karnataka or any part of india. This above Scheme looks like a conspiracy.

This is really absurd and looks fishy. Why should they discriminate between minority and poor. If they want to help the humanity, they should define the word "POOR" and help those poor people irrespective of minority, majority, SC, ST etc.,

Govt. should not allow such moves or motives when it comes to charities.... Charities are done for a cuase not for a cast or religion.

I think this funding announcement has taken out of proposanate.Pls.clarfify me how foreign countries aid any of particular community without the consent of Respective Governments. And it looks very funny that a mere Rs.80 lakhs pledged by said countries for a state like Karnataka which has 60 million population, and I believe this is just a gimmick by so called Indo -Arab chamber to get some publicity. And it is unfortunate that some sick minds taken it granted and make a big hue and cry, without going for any recheck or verification.

This is not the first time. If you remember, during Vajapayi Government, expats from the entire world is contributed and that’s how the GDP is increased in India. Only difference is that was a national interest and this is community interest

Can someone please define who are the minority groups in Karnataka. I understand that the state government is fully committed to the advancement of the minority groups. This program looks very suspicious to me and we should keep away from this dodgy characters. I wonder why our politicians are interested.

Jordon & Lebanon ? too. B'Coz these countries are surviving on GCC handouts. There should be accountability as to the movement of funds. Funds in wrong hands and diversion to non-approved activities should be avioded.

Please double check that the money is rightly spent. Keep a tab on all the individual and organisation that was given Arab aid. Conduct an annual conference and request all the aided organisations to register and give the summury of their progress to the elite committee.
Involve service organisations and task force to check any pilferage. Those who is found of misuse of the fund should be taken to task and recover the aided fund.

The people of Karnataka who worked in the Gulf for so many years indirectly responsible for the growth of these countries. Thus it is a good move by the Arab world to help the people of Karnataka.
Crores of funds come for the USA and Europe through VHP but all used for the party and khaki uniforms with Lathi. Tons of dollars collected in developed countries to improve the Indian majority community but nobody is accountable in India? Have they made any hospital, colleges for the poor?.
There are few institutions and hospitals contributed by the temples, but if you compare the amount collected in temples by everyday then their contribution is totally near to Nil.
We only talk about culture and temples but nobody is interested to look after the poor outside the temples. We sanction crores of funds to temples but no roads to the temples and people get VIP passes to enter temples but no entry for fellow believer.

Congress should overtake Gujarat State in attracting Foreign Investment and other International business opportunities with steady state rule in Karnataka.

Honourable Chief Minister, set a role model to other states to defy the BJP influence and accept the fact that thoughout India Congress is the best. Long live Congress. All the best in forthcoming election.

Let BJP use big words but you show the citizens that actions are better than empty words.
