Kundapur, Jul 26: As sea erosion continues to threaten residents near Madi in Gangolli, there is a growing fear that fishing boats might get washed away anytime.

The area under Gujjadi gram panchayat limits witnessed minor sea erosion earlier, but since Wednesday July 24, it is causing more damage.

Trees on the seashore have been washed away by strong waves. Fishing boats parked in the area are also facing danger. More than 500 boats carry out fishing activity in Madi during monsoons. But due to strong waves, fishermen have not been able to fish from past one month. Hence, they had parked their boats at a distance of 150 metres.

Since Wednesday, the parked boats are facing danger of sea erosion. The mud on the shore is been engulfed by the water. The stones which were kept as a barrier wall 15-20 years back have been washed away.

The fishermen are busy in shifting their boats further away.

This is for the first time that sea erosion is causing such damage in the area, opined locals.

Despite the increasing threat, till Thursday July 26 afternoon no officials visited the spot, alleged locals. Leaving aside an official from the gram panchayat, no revenue official has turned up.
