Mangalore, Jul 27: The All College Students' Union on Saturday July 27 staged a massive rally against the present carry-over system in polytechnic colleges and followed it up with a protest near the DC's office.

The protestors slammed the state government and demanded the resignation of higher education minister R V Deshpande.

Addressing the protestors, Dinakar Shetty, legal advisor of the Union said, "The present carry-over system will jeopardize the future of students. As per the present rules, students who fail in more than four subjects cannot continue studies. Though the high court had ordered the state to provide opportunity to students who fail in eight subjects instead of four, the goverment has failed to follow it."

"Though students have been demanding a change in the system and speaking out their problems to R V Deshpande, there has been no proper response from him. Deshpande must hence resign from his post immediately and chief minister should intervene in this issue and solve the problem," he said.

"The government should respond to this issue within a week, failing which we will intensify our protest. A dharna will be organized on August 3 near DC's office if no action is taken," he warned.

The rally was taken out from Jyoti circle to the DC's office. Hundreds of students participated in the protest.

All College Students' Union president Ramith Shetty, vice-president Vinay H J, Sachin Bangera, Deekshith, Karishma D Ullal, Udupi president Jovin D’Souza, Beltangady president Mohammed Arif, Sullia president Prajwal KT, Karkala president Nisha N Shetty, Karwar president Ganesh, Moodbidri president Johnson and others were present.

Everyone has their own issues. Everybody is right on their own sight. Those who succeed in life, they passed an elderly comment not putting themselves in the place of a student. There is no wrong in seeking one more chance, students. But seek your right with respect.

students are going to school/college to get fail & carry over the subject for the next academic year? where the value of education stands then? what is the deference between a person who studying and clearing all subject and a person who coming to college just for a time pass? this carry over system must be stoped... better stop all this nonsense of making baseless strike. Hello Mr Dinakar Shetty, legal advisor,we don't expect such things from you at least... before coming to road.. you would have explained.. the facts to students... and would have avoided this all drama... after all you are adviser!!!!

It looks like time pass protest, 12th pic is the example.there should 2 subjects for carry over then only students will feel importence of education and capacity of students will be measured in the initial sems itself instead they become finacial burden for poor parents till last sem by huge subjects carryover.

All students unions should be banned in India. Parents can protest though other means but not the students. It is because some political organizations utilizing these students for their gains.

Those students who cannot clear their exams in due time, are just carrying extra baggage which they may not be able lift. Hence, it is better to use them in some other profession where they could excel. One such sector is agricultural sector...

Come on guys & gals if you are poor in understanding technical/science / maths subjects, there are other fields where you can pass at first attempt and may be with distinction.... Thinking about pie in the sky will not help. You can't have the cake and eat it too.

You need some reason to protest..! Want to enjoy boycotting the classes in the name of protest.. Political lawyers are very much smart in brain washing the students brain and utilize them to create unrest. I think there is no meaning in carry over with 8 subjects? Instead you protest to pass without exams... Policy and standards to uphold our great quality of education. If standards can be changed as per your wish what value we will have for our education system in future.. Parent / teachers think twice before you support your kids for this protest...

I don't think this system of carry over brought into force just one month back. Students who joined the courses knew very well and their demands are not justifiable. Asking for the resignation of Minister is not justifiable at all.

If these students put the same efforts in their studies, they would have cleared all the subjects. Carry over system is killing quality of education. Good lot who puts their best efforts shall come out and be winners...

How unfortunate that learned people are misguiding these students. Instead of advising the students to study hard and move on, these students are being misguided. Where will a batch of students having failed in 4 or 8 subjects take this nation. What will these failures produce?
I would support the government in this decision and I think all these comments should be shown to these students to think for themselves and decide, and that is if they have not kept their brains in a place where the sun doesn't shine.

Students have every right to protest, but discipline and right attitude is expected from them!

Strangely students are more vocal about Shri. R.V Deshpande's resignation than restoring needed carry over system!

Not to politicize and corrupt the minds of our precious students!

First of all, students should not allowed to next level even if they failed in one subject, High school system. What is next, do you want to go to next level without taking exams?

If students want 8 subjects to be carried over - then why the hell are you going to college?

If a student cannot clear 8 subjects in his 1st semester/1st year - do you expect him to carry over and clear 16 in the next year?

Not a valid point students. I don't think anyone should support you.

Strange, students just focused for carry over system than study and by the who will fail in more subjects, those who will come just for timepass. The time they spent for protesting if they would study atleast one subject one chapter I am 100 percent sure they would get passing mark.

This is not the way to protest and they are suppose to be our tomorrow's leaders.
God! save them from the clutches of the Sangh Parivar. They are using these youngsters for their vote bank. Very, very sad.
Please guide them to concentrate more on education and not look for such shortcuts.
Better late than never. Jai Hind!

But, this protest is meaningless..It is better to continue present system, let student study hard (extension upto 8 subject? for what)

The useless UNEDUCATED MINISTER should resign immediately. 90% of the Polytechnic students come from 10th std. They find it difficult to pass technical, science and maths subject at one shot. So as per high court order it should be increased to 6-8. Students in Bangalore also held protest 2 weeks back. But it has fallen on deaf ears of minister.

If students are not capable of passing then they should not join polytechnic. Students goal is to study hard, build knowledge and pass exams. They should not attend colleage for entertainment or time pass. There are so many other jobs to do.

Un-freakin-believable !!!! They are actually striking because they know they will fail. rather than making and effort to study hard and pass. Some cant even tolerate the embarrassment of failing in one subject, and these kids want an extension of upto 8 subjects? what the hell is happening people? Have you kids auctioned your brains in a scrap auction?
