Mangalore, Jul 28: Minister for higher education and tourism R V Deshpande on Sunday July 28 visited the district Congress office and said that the government has planned a 'Coastal Circuit' project for the development of tourism in the coastal part of the state.

"A special 'Coastal Circuit' project has been planned for the development of tourism along Karwar and Mangalore. With the implementation of this project, tourism development is possible, and simultaneously more revenue will be generated," he said, addressing the media and a gathering of Congress leaders and party workers.

"The deputy commissioners of the three districts in the coastal belt - Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada - have been directed to submit a report on the scope for tourism development in their respective districts. They will do so at the earliest," he said.

He also said that the tourism ministry is considering ways to increase the number of foreign tourists to the state, and said that main reason for their low interest in Karnataka was poor infrastructure in tourist spots and lack of publicity. His ministry will give priority to developing the tourists spots and improving infrastructure, he said.

"With regard to the appointment of guest lecturers, the department has received nearly 37,500 online applications, out of which 8,694 have been appointed through online procedure. Deadlines will be strictly followed during the process of appointment, which is expect to be complete by July 31. Transparency will be ensured as there is no question of influence from any MLA or minister," he said.

On the issue of pending salaries to guest lecturers, he said, "Salary worth Rs 58 crore was pending, out of which Rs 22 crore has been cleared for payment. The rest of the amount will be sanctioned soon and the pending salaries will be disbursed," he added.

On the recent incidents of clashes in colleges in Dakshina Kannada, he said, "The college campus is a holy place and its sanctity should be respected. Lecturers, students or principal having affiliations to political parties or related associations is just not acceptable. Strict action will be taken against those who engage in such activities," he said.

MLA J R Lobo, leaders Ivan D’Souza, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Suresh Ballal, A C Bhandary, Mohan P V, Mohammed Badruddin, Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.

With the present CRZ rules, Coastal Tourism is a hoax and you will never see it. Instead of us enjoying on our beaches, we have to spend money and visit Goa or Pattaya.

COASTAL TOURISM : A JOKE ? In many coastal areas where there are clusters of fishermen's old houses, have been zoned as CRZ-1. Now lands coming under CRZ-1, cannot be converted into non-agriculture, Because these lands are not converted the Banks do not advance loans.Because of this the living standards of these fishermen do not improve. Will the Govt. look into this seriously ?

For the last one decade our leaders ministers MLAs talk about Developmental activities to boost tourism, but no concrete steps taken so far about the project. Our coastal area has the potential for tourism. First of all complete hanging bridge from Sultan Battery upto Thannirubhavi. Then construct a bridge to Kumaradhara river by upgrading the present one. Many tourist from various places are coming to visit Kukke Subramanya temple. But the fate of them. This time the said bridge inundated for 12 to 13 times because of the heavy rains in Ghat section. This bridge is neglected for many years. Students suffered a lot this time. Tourists stranded at both sides of the river. If this is fate why these Ministers talk lot about the Tourism. It is not known what the Grama Panchayath is doing here eventhough Panchayathe Raj has come here. What happend to the Heli-Tourism of the then Minister Janardhan Reddy? He has promised many things about this project and then all of a sudden vanished. Anyway the present Congress Govt. has to take interest on this and proceed further.

    Chicken and the egg story:
First build the infrastructure to perfection like Europe /german/Japan standards.
    - EX: Roads- airport- hotels- .
Establish a gcollege only for Tourism: educate the young students.
    - there is lot of professionalism in this area.
    - have foreign consultants especially from UK - europe .
    - Tie up with all tourism centers across the globe- national heritage and cultural centers
    - clean - maintain all heritage places like temples- churches- all iconic monumental places of interest.
    - Estalish : tourism police both males /females with different uniforms.
100% trained with total discipline -tourism friendly-knowledgeable -pleasant- equipped with vehicles -computers -communication equipments.
-safety of the tourist is prime importance -comfort and satisfaction is the motto.
    - there should be proper sign ages- lightings - pamphlets in various language s right from the Airport - tourist information bureau.
-Police - hospitals -ambulance should work in tandem for quick medical aid in case needed -no bureaucracy -make it simple and efficient.
All beaches should be provided with proper
Garbage collection bins and any one littering should be fined heavily and made to clean the entire area in return.
All writing -bold signage s should be thru professional cos who can read and write -it should be of European -USA standards.
This is the responsibility of every indian-all of us to treat our guest s-visitors with high respect and keep them happy with sweet memories .and they should be back with friends and relatives.
There is lot of education needed .
    Discipline - attitude and professionalism.
There should be Course for tourism with overseas practical training also.
Tourism industry is huge can generate billions of dollars but we just cant wish -we need to invest -we need to work for it and make it happen.
Leave a great impression about our hospitality-culture- friendliness.-our respect.and spiritualism.

Forget about encouraging tourism in Mangalore.. first improve roads and public transport. It is impossible to cross a road in Mangalore. And finally Mangalore is not a safe place for anyone especially women.

Coastal Circuit project to boost tourism! Good!
Infrastructural development and creating conducive, visitor friendly environment is also important to boost tourism and trade.
About Policing the Moral Police and its impact impact on tourism, I think, if businessmen of coastal region realize the importance of tourism, surely they will prevail over Moral Police, tame them and show them their place.
Goa BJP Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has successfully handled Moral Police in his State.

The Coastal Karnatala has very good scope to improve tourism because it has more features of Goa.The sea coast can be converted fully with tourist resorts plus other religious centres as added attraction. The rivers can be converted into tourist use what Kerala has done for boating and river stay.Hope the present government will study this and come up with comprehensive projects to the coastal karnatak to make it best tourist centre.Thanq.

Until the time these 3 commissioners get their reports ready why not start building a few toilets in the coastal areas of these districts. You do not need any reports. Toilets are needed for tourists and also local people who are also tourists. Start with small jobs first then dream of big jobs which will anyway not come in Karnataka. In Kerala things work differently. Jai Kerala, Hooo Karnataka.

Nice, what type of report about tourism your DCs are capable of submitting regarding tourism is "from your mouth to Gods ears".

This sounded like "Ugrani" speaking to "Shanuboug",,, never mind...Good Going Minister...keep it up...

    well said Mr. Langoolacharya,

That too Minister Sir addressed the gathering of Congressmen. Minister knows that he can fool his own partyman.

in that gathering no one pointed the primary things of right now to minister sir, viz. Sea Erosion, Flooding. Let foreighn tourist arrive to costal districts to see how we are managing Sea Erosion ... certiany they will be happy and wait for next season of Sea Erossion and the few years later there will be only sea everywhere, no minister no land to rule...
