Mangalore, Aug 1: Bantwal rural police station sub-inspector Mahesh Prasad deposed before the second additional district and sessions court here on Wednesday July 31 in connection to an atrocity case filed by a woman in Bantwal.

According to police sources, a woman had filed the atrocity case in 2010 in the Bantwal rural police station. The court had ordered the police to submit documents and produce witnesses pertaining to the case, and had also directed the police inspector to appear in person.

However, Mahesh Prasad failed to honour the court order and was later issued show-cause notice. But again he did not appear in court, and finally the court issued a warrant against him.

This time, Mahesh Prasad appeared in court, but without producing necessary documents or witnesses for the case. Angered by this, the judge remanded him in 14 days of judicial custody for dereliction of duty.

However, sources said that higher officials of the police department intervened and with the help of the public prosecutor managed to secure him bail the same evening. Mahesh Prasad was let off with a stern warning, and sources said that he was released in view of his official duty.

Mahesh Prasad reportedly said that the case in Bantwal rural police station was filed by the woman before he assumed charge there.

In most of the counties accused police officers need to remove their Cap and Belt before appearing in court, because they are accused in a case even not proved guilty. Here this is a mockery of law and order.

Lets not comment without knowing the story from both the sides. There are many good officers left in the department as well as fake complaint filers as well. Tomorrow if a thief burgles your home are you going to let him off becoz he hails from a particular caste or religion. Time is not far when law breakers will start filing cases against the law enforcers which is already happening and to add to that we have politics which has made our police force so useless that no police officer officer is ready to take a personal risk for the line of duty becoz in the end only he and his family will lose.

Police atrocity can be seen almost every and each countries of the globe, but they are not above the law. Breaking law and torturing the innocent people and women is not their duty as they are our protectors. Each and every policemen must think that we are for the people and for their safety.

Most of the rural police personnel treat public (if he is uneducated worst)like, as if they are doing a favor. The fact is they are supposed to listen to the public grievances, being public servant. But 'no' they think public is their servant and do or talk whatever, however they wish. Be aware because we pay tax they get their salary. General public is not realizing that we have some fundamental rights, which is denied in these so called police stations.

I have heard innocent public are threatened and abused for no fault of theirs. Sometime if the opposition party is influential or strong political back ground, then it is still worst. We choose our leaders and the police personnel become their servants neglecting many a times their duty. I strongly believe there should be public awareness in this regard. And we should know that the police personnel fail to perform their duty then they can be dragged to the court of law. These atrocities will go on happening if the public doesn't become smart and know some basic rules or codes.
