Kundapur: Poor state of quarters leaves police personnel in quandary

Kundapur, Aug 4: They work day and night so that we may sleep peacefully in our houses, but when it comes to their own comfort, the police, at least in Kundapur, are at the receiving end.

The police quarters located behind Kundapur police station near New Bus Stand is in a poor condition, to say the least. The quarters, built 20 years ago, has been completely damaged due to poor maintenance.

In these quarters, including the house for inspector and sub inspector, there are altogether 41 houses out of which 13 houses are completely damaged. In 10 houses, police families live with great difficulty but other houses are in a poor condition.

Continuous problems

The problems faced by police officials’ families is continuous. One of the major problems is leakage—if the top floor house uses water in the bathroom, then it will enter the house right below it.

This condition is worse during the rainy season. Adding to this, the rain water enters the room. The doors of a few houses are completely broken. People still live here as they are helpless.

In connection to the repair and maintenance of the house, from the past 20 years, the government has released funds from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 lac but so far no work has been carried out with that money. It is said that the official in charge for repair and maintenance prepares false bills and claims the money and this incident came to light lately.

According to some people, it is not at all possible to repair the present quarters as it is damaged to that extent. Hence, building new quarters is the best option, they said. About 25 cents of land belonging to the department lies vacant next to the house of the sub inspector. Even after that, the question is why the department is not giving them basic facilities.

Here in Mangalore also the same condition prevails. The old police quarters are useless to occupy because of the bad condition. Police personnel should be provided with good facilities to live in. Why the Govt. not allotting sufficient funds to get repair the Police qurters. Otherwise let he Govt. take action to demolish the good old quarters and construct new quarters like flats for their better living.

This is not the way to treat police personnel. That is why they are encouraged to make some extra bucks (easiest way - hafta, bribery etc.)

Government should build suitable new quarters rather than making face lifting work to existing structure which is already in a bad shape.

I do not know how they have tolerated living in such a deplorable condition.

    @ Mr. Nagesh,

i HAVE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN COMMENTING OVER THE YEARS ON SEVERAL ISSUES WHICH IS VERY MUCH REQUIRED IN A COUNTRY LIKE INDIA. GREAT WORK. KEEP COMMENTING FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY AND NOT FOR THE COMMUNITY.

WHILE INDIA WAS BEING RULED UNDER BRITISH, EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE SOCIAL ISSUES, INDIA DEVELOPED EXTREMELY WELL. THE RAILWAYS IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE. CONSIDERING THE CORRUPTION, OUR MINISTERS WOULD HAVE NEVER ACHIEVED THIS.

THEREOFRE, I STILL FEEL THAT INDIA SHOULD BE RULED BY FOREIGNERS. WE DESERVE IT.

    Pint Mangalore,

Any police officer or government official will get transfer order every year if they work sincerely...!!! And I won't think that their yearly earnings (Hard earnings) are sufficient to repair these quarters....
