Bangalore, Aug 6: Three labourers were on Monday August 5 killed and over 10 others injured when an under-construction building collapsed at Kengeri on the outskirts of the city.

The building collapsed when the labourers were at work, home minister K J George, who visited the spot, told reporters.

Two victims were from north Karnataka and another from north India, the minister said and added that police and fire officials were carrying out rescue work.

The injured were rushed to a hospital, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy, in charge of Bangalore, said.

The deceased have been identified as Venkatesh (40) of Sunkadakatte, Shivakumar (25) from Gulbarga, and Kumuresh (25) from Bihar.

Over 10 persons including Yamanurappa from Gulbarga, Shivakumar, Lalchand and Gurudev from Andhra Pradesh were seriously injured, said sources. They have been admitted in various hospitals in the city.

It is said that the labourers were engaged in the construction of a wedding hall at Bandemath in Kangeri. The work on the lower floors was over and the labourers were working on the centring to lay concrete for the upper floor.

On Monday, nearly 15 labourers were at work on the floor when the centring collapsed all of a sudden. Three of them died on the spot while others were trapped in the debris.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. Senior police officials also arrived.

No safety. construction companies use low grade equipment to make more money and Neglect poor labors life. Like in above pics wooden material is used instead of iron jacks. Safety should be given first preference. There should be a Safety officer appointed. labors life is very cheap as there are still many ready to work at sites without safety just for little wage risking their lives. Concerned People of construction should be arrested or they should pay a huge penalty for killing poor people just for their work.

    Sad news indeed!
Probably the cement used contained more ash than cement!
Nowadays, most items you buy are fake since some guys want to make a fast buck - at someone else's cost.
Nobody gives a damn about the laborers.
My condolences to the family of the deceased and hope the injured recover fast.
