Mangalore, Aug 7: In the wake of increase in the number of cattle thefts and slaughter cases in the district of late, M N Reddy additional DGP (law and order) on Wednesday August 7 warned that vigilant groups will not be tolerated.

"Vigilantism will not be tolerated. No group will be allowed to take law into its hands. If found doing so, strict action will be taken against the group," he said, addressing media persons after reviewing the law and order issues at commissioner’s office here.

Briefing further, he said the city police commissioner is doing a good job and will continue to do so. "Whenever issues are brought to our notice, we will take action as per law, irrespective of the person involved."

"We have instructed all police officials with regard to security measures to prevent further instances of cattle thefts. There is no need for people to worry," he assured.

On the issue of shortage of police staff, he said, "The problem is there in whole of Karnataka. Altogether there are 18,000 vacancies in the state, and as per the government order, necessary steps will be taken to fill up the vacancies."

He added, "No police force can ever be sufficient and hence we are concentrating on mobility, improving technology and others. In three years, vacant positions will be filled and the situation will improve," he added.

Lauding the police commissioner for tackling goonda activities in the city, additional DGP said, "We discussed the matter during a review meeting. We will collect all the information about the goondas and necessary steps will be taken," he said, assuring to minimise gang activities soon.

IGP Pratap Reddy clarified that the police are not under pressure from any person or people. "Whenever incidents have been brought to our notice, we have dealt with them under law and taken strict action.

"In Western Ghats and Mangalore city limits, patrolling has been made strict," he added.

On the Moodbidri Basadi theft case, police commissioner Manish Karbikar said, "The investigation was tough as we did not have any primary information. We only had CCTV footage first in which identification was difficult.

"Our investigation teams left for various places to track down the accused. Initially, we recovered 3 idols and 5 idols converted into gold bricks. The accused was also involved in many offences at Andhra Pradesh and Orissa too," he said.

"The accused did not stick to one place, instead, he kept on wandering which made our investigation tough, but finally we nabbed him in Andhra Pradesh," he added.

"The remaining 7 idols are yet to be recovered. The accused during investigation has admitted that he was involved in 8 theft cases at Kumta, Kundapur, Karkala, Moodbidri and Udupi town," he said.

"The remaining information will be briefed to the media once the investigation is complete," he added.

I think you are still talking about the earlier Govt. and the hand tied police force by that Govt.\politicians.

It will all change for the better and steps are already taken towards that change.

Previous Govt. everybody knew how lethargic, how uneducated education wise\etiquette\morally and last but not the least so communal.
Sometimes we all get mixed up like you are now.
We are grateful we have a secular, very concerned and very active Government in place and we look forward to development and peace in Karnataka for the next 5 years at least.

It is very encouraging to observe that the hierarchy will go all out to ensure that LAW AND ORDER will be maintained at all costs. We thank ADGP Mr. M. N. Reddy for his reassurance that the department will be strengthened to ensure effective policing.
We already have very efficient and strong people in Dakshina Kanada with Mr. Pratap Reddy as The Director General of Police of the western range and Mr. Mahesh as The Commissioner. Even at the next levels we have Mr. Harishchandra as the Dy. S. P. attached to The I.G.P.'s office who is doing a good job and has time for every one and he does his best to help the public. Indeed we have two Deputy Commissioners Mr. Muthuraya and Mr. Darmayya who do not compromise on any issues. - On the traffic side we have A.C.P. Mr. Subramanian who has built a good name for himself as an honest and efficient officer.

Mangalore was indeed a peaceful City. and in the thirties and forties there was hardly any crime. However with the growth of population and on account of some unruly elements crime has increased and there is the need to have an enhancement in the police personnel to to keep the situation under control.

With the present management one can indeed hope that Mangalore will again be THAT PEACEFUL CITY.

The zeal with which police worked to trace the thief of Moodbidri Basadi is commendable.
But, for any Poor family their Cow is more important than lifeless Statues of gods or saints howsoever costly and antique those statues may be. So, why the Police are not showing the same Zeal for catching Cow thieves.
Sniffer Police Dogs can be effectively used for detecting illegal slaughter houses and to catch cow thieves. Because Smell of Cow's flesh spreads to long distance unlike chicken or lamb meat, and dogs can easily detect such hidden slaughter houses. Scavenger birds like Crows hover around such hidden slaughter houses giving clue to people at long distance.

I believe all this warnings are a show off by the IPS officer who knows everything right from the village to the capital city of Karnataka.
Every time we read about BD and other group stop the truck and beat up the driver and then call the police. Have you ever heard of Police arresting the people who beat up until the driver bleed all over?
There are honest police officers in the system but the corrupt and communal supportive police have made them helpless.

    AVY,
Every group is created on action to reaction basis. Everybody knows who started the communal terrorism and moral policing in India and especially in Karnataka. If one group stopped their anti social activities other group also will stop it automatically. Sangh parivar's monopoly in goondagiri should be stopped, otherwise law and society will stop it very soon.

Dear M N Reddy additional DGP (law and order),what ever you said is exactly same as per laws and regulations of our country. And it is your duty to guide the police who do not take actions against the complaints on ‘moral policing’
Do you want us to believe that all these days you and your system had no information’s about “Vigilantism and moral policing?”
It sounds very soothing that “No group will be allowed to take law into its hands. If found doing so, strict action will be taken against the group”, but what actions has your team has ever taken for beating people who carried cattle for which they had paid a stipulated price. They might not have taken a permission to transport the cattle which should be applied at the taluk office but they had paid for the cattle.
I recall an incident, a couple of years ago where the people who sold the cattle and received money and then informed the BD people to catch the transporters of those cattle.
In another incident a family had to sell the buffalos because they were old and cannot be used for farming but they could not sell them for almost six months just because of BD threat.Just imagine how much it cost for a poor family to keep the animals and feed them.

Clear warning to RSS,BD,VHP,HJV & Rama sene. No more excuses should be there for their moral policing.Strict law should be drafted with life term & death sentence punishment to those who are involved in moral policing. After all who are these goons to question about others dress, personal life etc.
