Karkala: NCC cadets transported in gas agency's tempo!

R B Jagadish
Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (EP)

Karkala, Aug 15: We have seen a number of instances of cattle transportation wherein animals are inhumanly bundled into vehicles that are cramped for space.

In this case though, it was not cattle but people who were transported in a goods tempo.

On the occasion of Independence Day, NCC cadets were bundled into a jam-packed goods tempo and transported to their institutes after celebrations at the ground.

The tempo was meant for transport of gas cylinders by a gas agency. It is yet to be known as to who had authorized their travel in the tempo.

There are buses in the schools and colleges in the area for transport of students. Their administration would not have hesitated to allow transport of the cadets on special occasions like these, opined a local who was eyewitness to the incident.

Simple question to all of you. If the tempo topples on the way and a tragedy occurs(Thank God nothing happened)where is the value for life? Who is responsible for such a situation?

NCC learns a man to overcome all the hardness and tough tasks in his life. Here it teaches Cadets to make themselves strong and is a part of training..... So think before posting this type of news.

I suggest ARMY Battalion to undertake many more adventurous and tough tasks to overcome the situations......

I agree with your statement that NCC makes a person tough. But remember we need to respect the NCC candidates as they were attending the celebration of INDEPENDENCE DAY. This show incompetency of the system and does not make a person tough. We should not be using the tempo for transportation of human beings. What do you mean by hardship? This is not a camp but an Independence Day celebration and should have been respected in a proper way. How many of us are willing to travel like this after any other celebration?

The Tempo travel is nothing compared to our experiences in NCC. One has to go through hard and tough life styles that will make them perfect in life. But the exposure you made will definitely make some changes for the future NCC trips.

I completely agree with Juliet, Mayya & Oliver. The people who had real experiences in NCC will not comment against this. If any student completes 4 years in NCC will make him/her perfect in Life. Yes these trucks are similiar/ better than the army trucks. May be the authorities had short of vehicles, since all the school/colleges celebrating I. Day. In real life you need to be more tougher than this. Look at those people travelling through suburban trains in Mumbai on daily basis. Can we change this? - Be positive - Jai Jawan.

When used Pants\shirts\jeans you shout "Foreign Culture"
When worn LUNGI by our Defence Minister, Purely Indian dress, you deride him as "Lungi Minister" meaning according to you a person wearing lungi is not fit for being a Defence minister\home\finance minister!!!! Then what do you want them to wear?
You BJPians please decide for yourself what you want to say. Just do not blabber.
Even in a place like a gulf country, just recently they ruled it is a decent dress.

An arrogant minister says, 'Soldiers are meant to die'. Our lungi defense minister given clean chit to Pakistan Soldiers , who brutally murdered Indian soldiers in Indian soil!!.
It is common for illiterate politicans and govt officials to use government 'Red light' cars for their personal work such as buying vegetables for their wives, ping their school kids etc.many times you might have seen these tugs using siren zooming out in between us!!
Our freedom fighters lost life, wealth, home etc for our country's independence . But now these useless fellows who are ed and elected by brainless people are riding over head.
These NCC or even army are utilised by these politicans to show that they are doing some thing.
catch these useless politicians and parade in gas agency tempos, give them one solid broom stick Pooja!!

C'mon guys. The tempo they are packed into looks far better than the NCC's own truck used to transport cadets. I have the first hand experience of travelling in those trucks. Please note that far from any comfort, you are thrown off the ground (no seats, as those are occupied by non-commmissioned officers shepereding the heard) even when the truck rolls over a small pit. It was fun though in company of other cadets who found it unique ride with some exclusivity compared to the travel on private bus, that too standing.

This may look harsh for us but if one knows what type of tough training and experiences they get in army you will be shocked. Lately my friend’s son also under went similar training. It is because of this training and experiences our army is capable to fight in extreme situations. They were able to save thousands of lives in kedarnath floods

With people like you as citizens of India, what do you expect from the Government. It is not 67 years, it will take 670 years for any Government in India, to make you a man, educated man out of you.
I can understand your dilemma, you cannot still make any improvement in your transportation that is bullock cart. Do not blame the Government for it.

My Contension is simple, where the money goes which is being collected through taxes including Customes duty. Transportation not only the issue here. There are more bigger issues to be answered by our rulers. Read About post independence success stories of south Africa and Hongkong. Japan will be best Example of recovery after tsunami. Dont blame public for the failure of ruling class.

In a country where corpses are carried in garbage trucks, this kind of events are not surprising. It is sad that the country boasting of rich heritage is slowly and steadily yet conveniently forgetting to respect human life - alive or dead.

God forbid, the tempo driver loses control of this vehicle due to imbalance or shifting of load due to bad roads and the tempo falls into a river or a ditch with 5 ft or more water depth this will result in death of everyone in the cage behing the drivers cab as there is no way to escape. The human brain cannot think when in panic mode. Arrest the person who authorised this mode as public transportation and file a lawsuite on attempt to murder -mass murder.Educated youth mush fight for their right. Don't agree to orders which may put your life at risk.Don't act like morons.

I totally DISAGREE with you ..NCC cadets need to be rough & tough is secondary .
Would you allow your kids to be transported this way ?
School or college authorities have no Standards at all!
The roads are in such bad shape a small accident can cause permanent or partial disability to their life.

    Dear Prem,
Agree or Disagree I dont care.I have given my views out of my own experience.I served in NCC for 7 years.I have attended several camps during the Dasara and summer holidays. It was NCC that taught me to face challenges in life.We had a comfortable life at home tho'not luxurious. On my return from camps I used to explain to my parents all the trainings that we underwent and my parents used to feel proud to listen.
In early 80's once I visited National Park Bghatta, Blore along with 8 children all below 12.We took up bus journey. In the evening while coming out from the park I found people running around desperately. Bundh call was given and there was no mode of transport operating. All of a sudden I found people running towards a lorry pulling and pushing each other cos every one wanted to get in .I any how managed to dump the 8 children in the lorry and reach Chamrajpet.
I could manage to do this only because of the NCC training that I underwent.
When I was working at Kuthuparamba a remote place in Kerala, I used to travel to Mangalore every week ends to spend with my family. One evening the bus stopped in the forests area .Due to Harthal the buses were not allowed to ply. Some people opted to spend the night in the forest and some started running.I too started running behind them with suite case in one hand and the high healed shoes in another.Crossing thro' the roads and later running on the Railway track stamping the Jelly stones and the s##t for 2 hours managed to reach the Kannur station. I heard a man screaming Madamme Your train to Mangalore is about to start and I immediately jumped into the moving train. If at all I could do this in my 50's it was only because of all the trainings that I had as an NCC cadet.
At present the parents grow up their children within 4 walls providing all the comforts and luxuries in life. What sort of Nation will they build in the future.
Accidents can happen even when you travel in a Rolls Royce.
    Have Good day.
