Sullia: Illicit affair leads to murder - Man shot dead by wife, paramour

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia

Sullia, Aug 20: In gruesome incident reported at Kotaje in Yedamangala, Subramanya, a woman and her paramour allegedly shot her husband dead with a country gun, as he had opposed their illicit affair.

The accused are Ratnavati and her paramour Sunder. The victim is Ratnavati's husband Hariyappa Gowda (46).

After the murder, Ratnavati had filed a missing complaint about her husband in Subramanya police station, it is learnt.

However, suspecting foul play, Hariyappa Gowda’s brother Chidanand and his wife Varija told the higher police officials that Hariyappa had not gone missing, and that they suspected murder. They urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.

Pertaining to the case, initially police had detained Hariyappa’s wife and her paramour for questioning after which the murder came to light.

As per the information obtained, Ratnavati and her illicit partner Sunder had planned to kill Hariyappa as he was against their relationship. Hence, Sunder took Hariyappa for hunting after making him consume alcohol and then shot him.

After killing him, he threw the body to Kumaradhara river. The gun was hidden by Ratnavati in a cow shed.

The two accused were produced before Sullia judge and sent to judicial custody.

It is learnt that the accused had also created a fake death certificate wherein they mentioned that Hariyappa committed suicide as he was in debt. The fake death certificate reached the hands of Sullia inspector Sudarshan after which the entire episode became clear.

Ratnavati has two sons and a daughter from Hariyappa. The elder son is studying in class 8, second son in class 4 while the girl is just four years old. Currently, the children are staying at her aunt's house.

Sunder is also married and has two children.

Sullia and Subramanya police investigated and arrested the accused in a joint operation.

There is no question of supporting extra-marital affairs, it affects the family more than the society. If wife is not happy with the husband for whatever reasons, then there is no point in continuing with the relationship, it is time for break-up and move on in life. Counselling by elders, psychologists definitely helps but living in frustration of deteriorating relationship can only lead to taking such extreme steps. Nobody says you adopt western culture in India but see what options lie in between!

    Mr. Thomas,
So you are for extra marital affairs...Don't try to give lecture. Murder and Extra marital affairs are equal crimes... Don't compare our culture with western bloody culture... By your comment all readers know what kind of thoughts you have...

The news headline itself justifies which one is a bloody (killing) culture! western society is quite matured, they do not kill on the basis of marital relationships. Extra-marital relationships are very much part of our Indian society, not western. Make/break is the western policy in which human life is respected and both genders are equal.

If she was born in a western country (ref. western culture), she wouldn't have killed her ex-husband, he would still be alive as a bachelor and wanting to get married again. Now think about it, which one is better, life saving culture or killing culture?
In the west, they understand each others sexual desires and decide to part ways when it is impossible to continue. But in our culture, killing is acceptable but not to seek a working relationship.

Hey, lady, your husband looks smart and handsome and what made you to run after Sunder, though his name is Sunder but doesn't look so.

Love is blind? Come on, marriage is an institution and is to be honered by both partners with trust and better understanding.

I pity the diseased husband his family.

In Western culture the murder doesn't take place. If you don't like your husband, you are free to walk out without any social stigma. You can get divorce in 3 months (uncontested). Pretty much like clap...clap... clap Thalak...Thalak...Thalak.

These are the deadly side-effects of moral policing in the region. We are creating a mangalorean version of taliban by engaging youth in such immoral policing and that will definitely affect their families in this manner. Though this incident has nothing to do with moral policing, it has affected our society to a great extent. Hope parents will educate their children and guide them in the right path.
