Bangalore, Aug 23: Dedicated Income Tax Department’s Central Processing Centre (CPC) to process TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) will become fully operational soon.

This information was given by Ashutosh Chandra, Commissioner of Income Tax, Bangalore - 2, while inaugurating a seminar on TDS organized by ASSOCHAM.

The IT Commissioner said the dedicated CPC would help obviate numerous problems currently faced by tax payers, particularly those resulting due to errors in feeding of data.

Chandra said there was need to foster culture of compliance with tax laws.
This, he said would bring down the need for prosecution or investigation by Tax authorities and ensure collection of due taxes at the same time.

Lauding the tax payers of Karnataka-Goa region, Chandra said the region had clocked the highest growth in TDS collections, which was almost double the national average.
He said this reflected better understanding of law and the urge to comply with the same.

S S Mantri, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Bangalore, advised delegates to approach the I-T Department for clarifications on various issues.

He asked the delegates to ensure strict compliance of provisions of tax laws especially in matters related to tax deducted at source.

In case of any doubt, tax deductors may approach the Department for clarification, he said.

Earlier welcoming delegates to the seminar, Jacob Crasta, Co-Chairman, ASSOCHAM Southern Regional Council complimented the Department of Income Tax for several measures taken by them to simplify the process of filing income tax returns and claiming refunds.

However, he said the tax payers were still faced with a large number of problems that arise due to difference in interpretation of law.

This often leads to lengthy litigation causing loss of precious time and resources, Crasta said.
