Udupi, Aug 27: No lawyers in Udupi have come forward to provide legal service or to defend the three main accused in Manipal gang-rape case - Yogish Poojary, Hariprasad Poojary and Ananda Pannara.

It can be recalled that, on Jun 20, 2013 Manipal University's medical student was allegedly gang-raped in an auto rickshaw. Out of five accused, Balachandra Poojary and Harindra Poojary have been arrested for helping the other three prime accused. An Udupi based lawyer is defending Balachandra and Harindra as they were not directly involved in the case.

Even after two months no advocates have shown interest or have come forward to defend the three prime accused.

Meantime, all five accused have been produced before the district court by Manipal Sub-inspector Sadanand Tippannavar. The court has ordered judicial custody of the accused until August 30.

The faces of all the three prime accused were covered during the last four times while producing before the court. But on Monday, for the first time face covers were removed and identity of accused was revealed.

Earlier, since the rape victim was not ready to identify the accused, they were brought to the court with their faces covered, sources told Daijiworld.

For a moment going away from this particular case, imagine Asaram a self styled Godman evading arrest since so many days for a serious complaint filed by a minor devotee despite he having so many previous serious accusations of mysterious deaths, land grabbing (referred to SFIO in 2010), etc. and why no action, then where is the justice for the common citizen of this country???

Well done Lawyers of Manipal and Udupi I salute you all and I well come to your decission for not defending the case of the unhuman animals who were worst than the wild animals and the canibuls eater of human flash. even any other state laywers also please do not come forward for depending the case of the three gang rapers. Let the court must rule out the verdict soon the death sentence for the stupid rapist and let the police dept. and soon after the court pass the punishment of death sentence let the police dept. must immediately hang to death with out wasting the time. What a fellow human being is thinking a man can act as they wish and they rape the innocent women? What these rape crime rapist they are not came in this world from the stomach of their mother? what they have no sisters in their family? what they have no wife even not yet married in the future if they will going to marry that time whom they will going to marry? a animal? or a Sikandi or a girl who came out in this world from the stomach of her mother? What the male is thinking even if he is consuming alcohol at time he can behave like a animal and he can comit a brutal crime of rape? What when a drunker son heavily boozing and going home at that time don't he recognize who is his mother who is his sister and who is his wife? Now just like the say of MADIDUNNOHO MAHARAYA AND KONDA PAPA TINDDU PARIHARA! like that let the defaulters of the rape crime let them face the death penalty! any how 99% of the rape crime is detected by the police dept. then why should the police dept. keep these animals in the cell and waste the money to feed these animals whom have no blood in their eyes HARAMI AND MERCILESS GOONS!

if Kasab and others like Malik can be defended by lawyers, why not Ananda Pannara and other accused be defended by any Lawyer.
I know the right of the accused, when we believe in Gods forgiveness, and we do long long pilgrimage to please God and get our selves cleaned, and spend lakhs of money, what wrong or harm is there to defend him? we Christians believe in confessions and even forgiveness of mortal sins in confession then why can not a lawyer defend the accused in Udupi rape case?. I am a lawyer by profession and if i am given an opportunity I will certainly defend the case as I know the criminal Law and i will do my best to protect the Law.

If you are thinking that rapes can be controlled by way of counseling, I feel sorry for you people.Today the Supreme Court warned the lower courts for coming soft on rapists, which is a good sign.

No lawyers have come forward to defend the accused because they are from poor background. If they were rich they would have had Ram Jetmalani or Soli Sorabji fighting their cases.
Our social system needs reformation. The basic mindset of entire social system must be changed through councelling and awareness. The accused should be given a fair chance to defend his case through public prosecutor. The accused should be provided proper counseling. Every efforts are on to try and minimize the punishment and transform the accused into good human beings. Human right commissions all over the country are fighting hard to abolish death penalty, its inhuman.
Total transformation of society is the only way out to eradicate these evil things.
    Together we can change lives.

Good decision by the Fraternity of Udupi / Manipal Lawyers, not to fight for the accused in this gang rape case.
I only wonder why cant law be so strong like, make their faces public, paste the photographs on all public walls, places. When you decide on punishment, ( even if it means hanging them to death) please make these punishment photos public. ( like Pinto - Doha has written ) So that, next time when a person even thinks of committing such a crime, will think ten times, fearing the punishment.
Unfortunately our laws have such loose flaws that any criminal can get away with crimes they commit. Let our laws be harsh enough for others to fear before a crime is committed.
It is sad that rape cases are increasing drastically these days. Something concrete has to be done before it is too late.!!

I think the law forbids to show the nabbed persons faces until they are proven guilty, to safeguard if such nabbed person may be found innocent later.
If the persons face is seen by others before proving his guilt and later found to be innocent, his life still can be miserable as he'll be looked upon by people around him as a bad person\criminal and may lose his identity....

This is our Mangalore\Udupi. Unlike those money hungry lawyers from Delhi and other places, they have rightly stayed away from these culprits of a heinous crime.
They should be immediately penalised with maximum sentence.
And all lawyers in other states should note this and refrain from defending such culprits.

Good unity amongst the lawyer fraternity, could be to save oneself from the people's wrath!! However, just because the accused have been implicated, it is not proven that they have committed the crime until due process of proving is over!! Like this tomorrow any weak and poor person can be framed by the rich and mighty and taken to the gallows for someone elses mistake!!

Given that it is a watertight case built against the accused, even if some lawyer defends they will surely be convicted!!

any wrongdoer is not ashamed while doing it (crime) then why should he/she hide their faces when caught? police must show their faces on the first instant so public will be careful while dealing with them. merely showing a sketch is not sufficient.
