Mangalore, Sep 4: A woman who delivered a baby a couple of days ago in Lady Goschen hospital developed sudden complications and passed away on the night of Tuesday September 3.

The deceased has been identified as Vishala (27), a resident of Vamadapadavu, Siddakatte in Bantwal.

She got married to Ravi, a resident of Kinnigoli on December 24, 2012. Ravi stays in Muscat, while Vishala had been staying at her parental house for the last few months prior to the delivery.

On August 31, she got admitted to Lady Goschen hospital and delivered a male baby on Monday September 2 at around 11 am by Caesarian section. Both mother and baby were said to be fine initially.

However, the mother's health started failing and she was shifted to KMC hospital on Tuesday. She was reportedly suffering from low blood pressure, though the exact reason for the death is not yet known. Doctors have reportedly stated that apart from low blood pressure, she died due to renal failure and infection.

She was immediately shifted to ICU, and on Tuesday night, she breathed her last. The baby is said to be fine.

Vishala's family claimed that she was fine before the delivery. Her sister Girija filed a complaint with the police demanding to know the cause for her death. Dinesh, a family member told daijiworld that she had no health problems earlier.

Her husband Ravi will be returning from Muscat on Wednesday September 4.

Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot and registered a complaint.

Very sad to hear this Happening.specially that small wurm will never have a Chance to hear or see its mother again.still sad to see and read some comments about they dont have knowledge why and what happend. Here I just think what must have happend to this Lady.of course due to Sepsis ,that can beginn even before op.means due to early pains beginn and where the Baby lies ruptures the sac and water sickers. that when take Long time tillthe delivery or op.can cause infection.and with antibiotics also have to be careful. These days antibiotics also dont work on every Body since many People are resistant to antibiotics .cause can be many ,preveously not taking medicines properly ,half dosage,or our Food, nowadays we consume more meat which is given high dosage of antibiotics to avoid infection. That can have effect on our health. So may be the Patient had lost lot of blood during op.which made her week and suffered Renal failure.God knows what was wrong.but she lost her battle .May God give her eternal peace.INfection in Hospital also is not to Forget.but even in Hospital These bacteria are also very resistent nowadays.I know what I am saying because of in Hospital worked for years. My sympathy to her dearones.

I wouldnt be a person with medical knowledge, but with little i know, infection can be the cause of her renal failure death. Now infections can be caught after a surgery or even by a person who has stayed for a prolonged duration in the hospital. it can also happen due to the hospital generated bacteria. people with wounds/surgeries/low immune systems/people in ICU on ventilators are highly vulnerable to these bacteria. Hospital's cleanliness does matter. but its quiet an task to save pateints once they have come in contact with such infections.

Patient's condition deteriorates & multiple complications arise. and it will be a battle to stabilise the patient. Luckily for some, they survive, others dont. this can sometimes happen in best of the hospitals in mangalore. so whome/what do we blame is the question. its natural, as a grieving family to blame the hospital. My point here is, it can happen in best of the hospitals.

Dr.Neil Fernandes...you are saying what people shoud donate to Lady Goshen Hospital for reconstruction?.You may be earning 500k per month but everyone is not same.People are paying useless tax, price of food ,property shooting up to sky ,a common man earning 10-20k can't donate to LadyGoshen Hospital.

Dear Mr. Antony Arun D'Souza from Dubai
I am surprised at your comment about Govt Hospital Doctors getting 500K (500k is 5 lakhs !!!). And you are assuming that 500k is their MONTHLY pay. From where did u get this information? If the salary was so good at a government hospital, doctors would have been queueing up to be employed by the Govt. But we all know the reality is very different. Govt Hospitals are running short of doctors as no doctors are interested in the job because of the low pay.
In Dubai you may be getting tax free salary, but here in India it is different, as you have rightly pointed out. So please avoid passing comments about doctors salaries and state of hospitals when you do not have the facts to support your statement.

Only God knows what happened and how may her soul rest in peace. May the child grow in his tender care and may her family get strength to face th esituation.

Pregnancy is a natural thing but neglegency from person and medical team is stupid. I know if urine out is low they ask to drink tender coconut which is very bad for kidney. May be this is cause which is started with urinary track infection and went to septicimia [Blood Infection}. This is just my little knowledge opinion and I may be wrong please excuse me.

Doc, value your comment on the possible cause of her untimely demise (negligence), but think practically in a country with a burgeoning population having no access to insurance and pvt Medical service becoming a BIG BUSINESS CARTEL, and Govt. Hospitals struggling to service the common peasants of this country what more can you expect???

Doc, the tests and processes you have suggested WILL ONLY BE WARRANTED AND AFFORDED IN A PVT. HOSPITAL WHERE THE PATIENTS ARE EXTORTED!! They would have costed not less than 30k, from where will a middle class person shell this amount???

With all due respect to the medical profession!!!

Dr kamath is absolutly true. My cousin as daijiworld reported death of Dr.chetan rai dated 27th May 2013. Postmotem revealed that death due to sepsis bacteria not due to an accident. He was struggling in KMC manipal for 6 days once accident happend, in that he was ok for first 3 days without infections. 4th day worsened and 6th day at worst with 3 heart arrest due to sudden bp down. They start antibiotic for sepsis bacteria from 3rd day but unfortunately drug never worked due to reduced brain response. I realised doctor made blenders and hospital generated bateria killed a resourceful one n only son of their parents. Whom to blame?

Most of Doctors are missing from their duties. Either they are working in their personal clinic or they are visiting other private hospitals on hourly basis, so in their absence it is found that rickshaw puller, sweeper gives injection in hospitals. Most of the cases in the absence of Doctor their uneducated staff attend the patients, This is the result. Who will punish the actual culprits?????

    Hi Rudolf,

fully agree with your point of view.

If I tell my own personal experience in Kuwait, all my good friends in this forum would be perplexed. Yes sometimes only money can save but without God's mercy even money power also cannot give any guarantee.

I had bad slip disk (lumbar - fixing of vertebras 4 & 5 and the central nerve) two years back but best of hospital and western Doctor, discouraged me saying surgery may leave me lifelong on wheel chair (sorry to say).

But I wanted live my life from that killing pain and took a bold step to go ahead in different hospital, I spent KD. 9000.- and by grace of God I am alright now.

Just imagine without that big sum what would have been my fate. God is great. That is the reality.

Flavian, bro, human body is too complicated, what we know is hardly even 10% of how it functions, the most easiest of cures are made complicated by the medical and drug (medicine) cartel, which is the most powerful in the world now!!!

There is not a single minute guarantee that a person certified 100% medically fit by the so called best institution in the world fall down instantly like a fly and die!!!

Very sad incident.Government run hospitals have to improve a lot on standards and hygiene.I feel there are 3 important aspects everyone of us to contribute to save life.
1.Pregnent mother should not be malnurished. If we want healthy society basic requiement is every woman must get balanced diet, sufficient rest.
2.Doctors have to disclose medical history to patients.I hardly found doctor discussing friendly with the patients. There may be complication in few cases but modern day medicine, equipment and doctors skill will make the miracles.
3.Good doctors rarely stay with government hospitals due to poor pay, shortage of staff and equipments.Unfortunately patients also unaware of minimum hygiene.
As a society we have to educate people on healthcare. My heart cry for that innocent lady and new born child.I know how precious is mothers milk and unconditional love.No substitute.

Seriously when you have not worked in the hospital please do not comment.

From outside the hospital, it is very easy to say hygiene is not good and give suggestions. When Lady Goschen hospital was lying there rotten without any infrastructure did you once think about donating a little money or asking someone to reconstruct the place? I highly doubt so.

I have personally worked in the hospital, and rest assure agree it might be a government hospital, but the staff do everything humanly possible to save the patients life.

Would recommend once you ENTER the place before you talk.

Government hospitals are not upto the mark, as private hospitals. Private hospitals/clinics charge little more but you get full attention and better service.

Exact cause of death will be known only after the investigation is complete.

Let her soul rest in peace.

Flavian, bro, this is a tragic incident and could be due to negligence, but today to seek treatment in a pvt. hospital even for a ordinary ailment you need bags of money which is possible only if you are a businessmen, govt. official, or having a plush job abroad, where will the poor and lower middle class go??

Pvt. hospitals are just business houses counting on how to fleece gullible patients right from admit to discharge!!

It is wrong to say treatment in Govt. run hospitals is bad! It is only due to the sheer load they have to handle that they are not able to give attention to each and every case in detail!! Under the given resources, they do a very good job in serving the poor and downtrodden!! Complex surgeries which would cost lacs in pvt. hospitals are done with a few ten thousands!!
