Mangalore, Sep 4: A Mangalorean youngster is all set to tell you a love story of unmarried couples on screen. Interestingly, when there was no support from anyone, this diehard fan of Kannada cinema actor Shankar Nag took on all the responsibility from script to camera, direction to post production on himself to make 'Saluge', a two-hour-long Kannada movie a reality.

True to his name, J V Manoranjan, a resident of Asaigoli, Mangalore, is passionate about the film and entertainment industry. By taking up this initiative, he has already set an example to all the budding film makers who suffer from lack of initial support. However, don’t expect the movie to be released in multiplexes and theatres. There will be no four shows each day either. Contrary to the existing pattern, the movie will only be screened on Namma Tv local channel on Monday September 9 at 1 pm, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

When most of the film makers aim for box office success and good returns, Manoranjan has no such plans, at least for this movie. “I want people to appreciate my talent. If they do, that in itself is equal to making it to the box office,” he says. “I have no money to screen it in theatres across the state. However, the movie will be screened on a local channel without any ad break. I don’t want to spoil its smooth flow due to greed for a few returns from advertisements,” he adds.

A photo editor by profession, Manoranjan quit his job to pursue his love for the movie. Previously, he has also directed, shot, and written three other short films. However, he says that the current film ‘Saluge’ is closest to his heart. His elder brother has financially supported Manoranjan in his project. ‘Saluge’ has been presented under the banner, ‘J V Productions’.

More than the movie, what strikes one the most is its making. “Less than 13 days were spent on shooting for the movie while nearly a year was spent on its editing and post production. I worked on the trial version of ‘EDS video editing software’, which I had to reinstall every month as it expired,” he says.

“More importantly, some of the aerial shots have been taken climbing trees and buildings since the camera-crane was expensive. In addition, the video camera too was hired on a daily basis,” he adds.

Don’t be surprised to see new faces in the film who are not really green in facing the camera. The acting crew consists of video jockeys who are very familiar to the local people. Besides, they are all his close friends who agreed to act without any financial compensation solely to encourage his talent.

Manoranjan has dedicated this movie to his parents and the late actor Shankar Nag. “Dedication to my parents is for their support in nurturing my interest in making films and I am a big fan of Shankar Nag,” he adds.

Synopsis

The movie revolves around a young unmarried couple and is relevant in current times. Lust dominates love. Although the girl initially rejects the love proposal, the boy’s continuous efforts to lure her and assurances of a serious relationship and promise of marriage eventually pans out. But, the climax of the movie is sober and has a message for Gen Y and parents at large.  The movie also consists of a melodious song sung by Manoranjan himself.
