Kundapur: Frustrated locals vent ire over poor state of NH 66, gherao officials

Kundapur, Sep 5:
The villagers and daily commuters on NH 66 picketed the office of National Highway Authority on Thursday September 5, demanding immediate repairs to NH 66. The highway is filled with pot holes and dust extending from KSRTC bus stand to Tallur and the problem has continued for the last six years.

Every monsoon gives rise to dangerous and life threatening potholes here and numerous two-wheeler riders have met with accidents, they said.

"The oil mixed crusher powder used in inferior quality work of covering potholes here rises in the heat of the sun and spreads in the wind. Several children and travelers had to go to the hospital due to the problem. The highway authority officials too travel by covering their noses, but they have done nothing to solve the problem," said Sachidananda, who led the protest.

Several locals then gheraod the assistant executive engineer and demanded that he should come to the highway. The people, who confronted engineer Y Krishna Rao when he came to the spot, warned that they would lock the authority office if the highway is not repaired within a week, besides blocking it in protest.

The engineer who accepted their petition, promised that the highway will be sprayed with water and repaired within a week.  The protest was revoked after the promise.

Pradeep Dharekar, Rajesh Kaveri, Rajesh Kadgi, Krishnayya Achar, Surya, Balachandra Kanchugar, Chandrashekar Sangam, Santhosh Suvarna and hundreds of people participated in the protest.

If a Bihari or a Bengali becomes railway minister he will make sure that all new trains will pass through their states in the railway budget.Unfortunately our leaders despite of powerful posts forget native place as they will be busy pleasing Delhi top politicians. Despite of being Cabinet Minister for Transport, Road and Highways, Oscar failed to improve the problems of NH in coastal Karnataka. It is a very sad thing. public should join together and protest peacefully!!

I still remember the comments made by one of the Minister about roads in Bihar comparing them to cheeks of one of the Actress and later it was a big discussion point for few monthes. Now the NH 66 can be compared to Mr.Oscar's Cheeks.

@Ummar, Udupi / Dubai, National highways are built and maintained by central govt.Who is ruling India from last 9 years and ruled India for more than 55 years in 65 years of Independence?I do agree BJPs MPs like Sadanda Gowda failed to raise the issue in Parliament effectively but even if they have done it would have not done any difference as entire congress party and their alliances like DMK and SP are busy in looting India in coal,2G,CWG,defense deal etc.Use your sense before giving any loose talk.

Good, people should demand for their rights and better facilities which the Governments have been neglecting!

We should never compromise the don't care type of attitude of Governments in peoples welfare schemes, be it freedom, security,
    safety, clean environment,right
to work, food, clothing, shelter medical facilities etc.

Congress has to clean up the own mess created by themselves since 1947 & may take another two generation. They need some issue for Amul baby/Priyanka. Even for issues like NH still they are blaming BJP, this shows their frustration & depression. First come out from BJP phobia & join hands for better developmental works. Not Tu Tu Mai Mai.

People from DK / udupi region has to become bit agressive forgetting the party whom they belong and make sure we get proper road within certain time frame. Now we should forget getting better road till centre election. This is what we suffered since many years. Even though we had stars like Oscar and Poojary, both ignored our region to provide better roads. Like always I write, they are enjoying their life today, because of people of udupi and DK region. Shame on both of them.

I fully agree Mr. Bangera, We do not fight for better living, instead we fight for petty things like cows, dogs etc. Road is an important thing in development of any place. With the current fuel prices,we should have efficient roads as we do not waste any fuel. Moily dear wants to shut the petrol stations at night to save petrol & no body thinks of the roads, which can save a lot of fuel if you drive at optimum speed. Jago Re!!
Oscar is a star with out a bulb!He is busy taking his wife around?

Not only Y Krishna Rao, bring all the present and ex MLAs, MPs, including Oscar, JPH, ex CM Sadananda....and also R Bhat...take them to task!!!!! Make them stay few hours in the dust!!! let them have some internal communication....if it doesn't yield....make them repeat it every month....do not let them do it when only election is nearing!!! Make them face dust away from AC cars like general public!!! Then every vote will count sweet for any party!! But supporters eyeing lacks and every voter demanding 500 R note...this is going to be down hill... In few years there will be no roads...only little money into every pocket...some pockets many times more!!!! Wake up before it is too late!!!

Well said. Even my friend from Davanagere told the samething 5 years back that Congis removed Atalji's photo in NH4 after they came to power.

Recently I traveled to Mumbai from Bangalore in Sharma Volvo Bus. It is more comfortable than Indian Rail. The complete 1000 KMs road is built in just 4 years. Look at the progress of NH 66, 90 KM MLR-KNDR doubling work. 4 years over, not even completed 30 KMs, what a speed vaare vah...!!!
The above comments given by Mr Dinesh only few days back but now he is giving opposit statement?????

Landlines have become mobile, wireless, www, email, fast, cheap or free.
Land transport is suffering with no proper roads, expensive fuel, pollutions and costs
Mobile revolution for benefits and auto-mobile evolution with problems

THE MERGER of horse and kangaroo style OR tortoise and rabbit style (with a special link) in vehicles can save more than 70% of expensive fuel, eliminate pollutions, reduce costs (of manufacturing, running and maintenance of vehicles) to below 50% and increase capacities of existing vehicles to more than 4 to 5 times, of normal capacities.

The opportunity is to have a revolutionary change in the surface transport sector and a world of difference. It is a pull and move concept (instead carry and move)
