Kasargod, Sep 6: In a suspected hawala case, the Kasargod police on Friday September 6 seized Rs 66 lac and arrested a 63-year-old man.

The arrested is identified as Mohamed Ali, a resident of Talangere Kadavatt.

Based on reliable information, the police arrested Mohammed Ali at 7 am on September 6 at Ashwini Nagar. The cash was found in his suitcase.

He had arrived from Mumbai by a private bus and had got down at Ashwini nagar. He was taken into custody when he was about to get into a car.

The persons in the car escaped with the vehicle when they saw the police. The police are on the lookout for the car and its occupants.

When interrogated, Mohammed Ali initially claimed that he had put his belongings in the suitcase. He was taken to the police station for further questioning and investigation. The police found Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes kept in a blue bag. Mohamed Ali said that a person in Mumbai had given him the bag and that he was instructed to hand it over to a man in Kasargod who would come to pick it up.

Police suspect that the Mohammed Ali is part of a hawala racket operating between Mumbai and Kasargod. The police have subjected Ali to further questioning. The operation was conducted based on secret information received by Kasargod DySP Mohanchandran.

Did you ever see any political party talking against hawala racket?,there is no political will to stop this business. Existence of this racket only possible by political patronage. All political parties distribute money to treir constituencies through HAWALA. If we want free and fair election we have to stop this hawala racket . Mohamed ali merely a breadwinner but our police cant reachout to the big fishes...
