Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (EP)

Kasargod, Sep 9: The police have information that a large amount of hawala cash has started flowing into the country after the value of rupee started depreciating against the dollar. Most of the cash comes into Kasargod and north Kerala. The police have information that more than Rs 5 crore in cash has come into the state by way of hawala transactions.

The hawala cash gets transported by bus, train and other vehicles. It comes from the Gulf by flights. An amount of Rs one crore has been seized in the district during the last month. Rs 66 lacs was seized from a bus passenger who had come to Kasargod from Mumbai, last Friday. The people who had come to take it escaped after seeing the police. The money is stashed in boxes in between other items.

The agents wait at Kasargod when the buses come from Mumbai. There are thousands of agents in the district for distribution of money. They are paid commission ranging from Rs 700 to Rs 1000 per lac of distribution. The agents distribute cash up to Rs one crore. It gets delivered at the residences of the beneficiaries. There are instances of fake currency kept in between them. A fake note of Rs 500 was found in the Rs 66 lac seized last Friday. Several fake currency notes were detected in the cash supplied a few months ago.

Fake currency was found in between hawala cash on Dubai to Mangalore flight last year. Rs 31 lac worth of fake notes were supplied from Dubai to India in 2012. Ten people were arrested in the case and NIA is investigating. Moideen Haji of Udupi and three other suspects in the case are absconding. Police have got the information that fake currency gets circulated along with hawala cash.

The devalueation of Indian currency and flow in of fake rupees can be stopped only by the G overnment by quick Change of currency either new notes or some other methods Then only you will see how many People come to Exchange and amount. But in India such things will take atleast 100years and again criminals have enough time to react.sad

Unless we stop money flow from hawala the steps taken to control value of our currency is invain.Better to form expert squads to book these crimes during transport itself by disturbing the free delevery system and the persons involved need to be imposed high punishment to deter this type of ventures.Hope our expert police force find suitable ways to stop hawala in total.Thanq.

As far as my memories go back to 60's some petty things (watches, pant material-stretch, perfumes etc.) used to be in circulation in Mangalore, being brought from Kasargod.

Uppala ( near Kasargod ) was famous for cassette players ( mono players ) / music systems ! Owning a cassette player in the late 70's or early 80's was a great thing and neighbours used to come to see it.

Mr. J N Lobo it was better if Kasaragod was part of Karnataka during 1950's itself. But due to political reasons it became of part of Kerala. A section of society took best mileage of the situation & over years, & dwindled its operation be it fake currency-smuggling-havala-cattle theiving or other criminal activities. Also it population dwindled over years. Whenever, any case of riots or stone pelting occurs the political wing cleanly backed up the people in releasing them. What can more we expect under such a situation.

Its high time Police & intelligence deal with a Iron fist to the trouble makers/anti-national. in Kasargod which is a safe haven for all these activities as its supported by much of the local public. If this is not nipped in the Bud, Kasargod will soon produce "Kasargod Brothers" like Bhatkal.

How this happens. May be due to increased smuggling of Gold. Government has to have a plan of action over come this menace. The developed countries have visions, however we are again back to square one (the days during late 1970). Only suggestion is the tax exemption on gold need to be considered (international market rate). Free flow of money will increase however law and order is under vigil, this will escalate cost of living and inflation rates in total.

Kasargod is in news for all wrong reasons. Good that it was not included in Karnataka when Linguistic States were formed.

It is sad that police allowed the big fish to escape and caught the small fish. In my opinion police allowed the actual culprits to escape and caught only a labourer who was just carrying the money.

Normally when elections nears, hawala transactions will also increase to stock pile the cash for distribution since Election Commission put lot more restriction for election related expenses. If they say only 15 or 20 Lakhs are allowed to spend by one MLA means they have to opt for hawala business only. Take the example of our own village Mundkur, where my distant relative is the in charge for election campaign for Congress Party for last two decades. In the recent election he got five lakh rupees election funds from our regional MLA to take care of 5 villages nearby and there are 15 minimum hardcore campaigners from each village totaling 75 members in five villages. He had to distribute Rupees Five Thousand per person for their hard working means he distributed Rs 3,75,000/- in total. So, just imagine if they have to spend minimum five Lakhs for just 5 villages, how much they have to spend in total for one constituency?
