Police hunt for Narayan Sai in Bihar ashram

Patna, Oct 18 (IANS): A joint team of Gujarat and Bihar Police Friday searched an ashram in Darbhanga for spiritual guru Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai, on the run after being accused of sexually exploiting a minor along with his father, but failed to find him, police said.

"A raid was conducted at an asharam in a village in Darbhanga to arrest Narayan Sai, but he was not found," said a district police official.

The search came after a tip-off that Narayan Sai may be hiding in the asharam.

Police acted on reports that Narayan Sai's bodyguard-cum-driver, who is a native of Ariyari village, was spotted visiting the ashram repeatedly in last few days.

The driver was also not found present in the ashram, the official said.

Asaram, who was arrested in a sexual exploitation case at his ashram near Rajasthan's Jodhpur city, faced similar charges from a minor in Gujarat's Surat. He has been taken to the Gujarat city for questioning.
