Mangalore, Oct 30: “The health minister showed concern for people by banning ‘Gutka’, but in his constituency he became ‘unhealthy’ minister by supporting the proposal to open a bar in Naringana region,” alleged SFI leader Jeevan Kuthar.

He was addressing the second protest organized by Nagarika Hitharakshane Vedike against Naringana gram panchayat for providing permission to open a bar in Thavudugolli Junction.

“Panchayat president and members are silent. Unfortunately, the elected representatives who should work for the people are now working in favour of bar owners.  Naringana village is famous for harmony and cleanliness but it’s name is spoiled by bringing a bar into the village. If the representatives have concern for the people, they should withdraw the bar license.  The health minister should support people in maintaining their health or else health minister will become the minster for the unhealthy,” added Kuthar.

“Government is trying to bring in cheap quality liquor for the poor people on which people spend their hard earned money.   

Gutkha ban is only a farce; in shops, there is Gutka available under various other names,” said labour leader Yakoob Sadeeya.

DYFI city secretary Santhosh Kumar, DYFI city president Imtiyaz, Manjeshwar Block Congress president, Ullal area DYFI member Rafiq Harekala, Ashraf Manchi, writer Ismath Pajeer, and Ummar Hassani were present on this occasion.
