Romi Mehta - designer of awards trophies now wins them

Mumbai, Oct 30 (IANS): Bollywood's well-known designer of awards and events trophies, Romi Mehta, has now started winning and collecting them for her debut movie "Ek".

"Ek" has bagged three awards at Red Dirt International Film Festival in Oklahoma, US, an aide said here Wednesday.

Nominated for five awards at the RDIFF, "Ek" won in the best foreign film, best of festival-grand jury award and best supporting actress for Prashansa Shrivastava, Mehta's aide said.

Mehta is known for her brand, "Rain or Shine", which is noted for the majority of the creative trophy designs that are given away at various top Bollywood awards and other events.

She turned producer and associate director with her maiden venture, "Ek", the story of a few hours of emotional journey of two women.

A roller-coaster of friendship, betrayal, religious differences and finally acceptance, "Ek" shows that nothing is static, everything changes in time, including emotions, environment and even the people.

"Mehta's 'Ek' makes you realise what a world we are living in. After watching the movie and Malala's speech at the UN, there seems hope," commented film director Rajkumar Hirani about the movie.

Top producer Ramesh Taurani described Mehta's venture as "a very sensitive film handle with utmost care and backed with powerful performances".

Incidentally, "Ek" is directed by a qualified dentist-turned-filmmaker Saurabh Bharat, who has a diploma in filmmaking from the New York Film Academy.

The lead actress Kanchan Kulkarni is a Masters in Business Management-turned-realty professional with a passion for acting.

Now, "Ek" has been selected for the Vancouver Asian Film Festival in Canada next month.
