Mangaluru, Nov 6: Nitte (Deemed to be University) successfully conducted the first session of its 16th annual convocation at the University Grounds, Deralakatte, Mangaluru, conferring degrees on 1,455 graduands from its Mangaluru campus.
Delivering the convocation address as the chief guest, Prof (Dr) Vivek Lal, director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, urged the graduates to ground their professional technical skills in ethics and human empathy.

"Technology and artificial intelligence offer immense possibilities, but ethics and human touch must always guide their use. Do not become a slave to technology; use it thoughtfully for an enlightened purpose. In healthcare and public service, human emotion and compassion are irreplaceable. A patient's faith is a healthcare professional's greatest asset and duty," said Prof Lal.
He further urged the young professionals to measure their success through social impact and lifelong learning. "As you enter your professional lives, let integrity and humility lead your actions. True progress comes when your expertise helps uplift the underprivileged and addresses the real-world needs of society," Prof Lal added.
Presiding over the convocation, chancellor Vishal Hegde congratulated the graduands and highlighted the university's commitment to social responsibility and academic rigor. "Nitte has always strived to cultivate an environment rooted in research, ethics, and innovation. As you step out as ambassadors of this institution, use your knowledge to drive meaningful change and contribute constructively to nation-building," Sri Hegde stated.
Addressing the gathering, pro-chancellor Prof (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty emphasized the importance of professional discipline and lifelong commitment to service. "Graduation is not the end of learning, but the start of a greater obligation toward excellence. Maintain high ethical standards, face challenges with fortitude, and always prioritize compassionate service over personal gain," Dr Shetty exhorted.
Vice-chancellor Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya delivered the welcome address during the proceedings.
Degrees were conferred across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences, Mass Communication & Journalism, Biological Sciences, Architecture, Speech & Hearing, and Hospitality Management.
