Mangalore, Mar 30: In one of the major judgements of recent times, Balilakatte Moidu Kunji has been awarded 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and Rs 10, 000 fine by Second Additional Sessions judge R S Beerannavar.

He has also been rewarded one year imprisonment and Rs 5,000 fine for possessing revolver.  However, another 11 accused have been acquitted after the prosecution failed to establish the accusation levelled against them.

Moidu Kunji was arrested on May 26, 1998 by the then Puttur additional SP and present DK SP B Dayanand during a raid on one Abdul Khader's house at Ayyankatte near Balila in Sullia.

Moidu was caught red-handed while cutting the Rs 100 face value currency notes with the help of a machine.  The police had seized several counterfeit currency notes, machinery used for the same and a revolver from him.

As per the information given by him, the police had recovered 86 fake currency notes of Rs 100 face value at Pudiyoor in Kerala and another 11.50 lac fake notes of Rs 100 face value from Varavel in Calicut.  The police had also seized a machine used in printing these fake currency notes.  In the subsequent raids, the police had seized another 12 notes from Talachery, 216 currency notes from Goodu near Bellare in Sullia.

The police had also arrested 11 persons in this regard.  The then Sullia circle inspector Jagannath had filed the charge sheet.
