Karkala, Nov 7: In a tragic accident in Karkala on Thursday November 7, a road roller while taking reverse without indication, rammed into a bike that was behind it, resulting in the death of a child.

The bike was being ridden by Madhusoodan Bhat, priest at Nandalike Laxmi Janardhan Temple. His wife Shruthi (28) and child Sharvani (3) were riding pillion.

The family were on their way from Nandalike to Belman. The driver of the road roller took reverse all of a sudden causing the accident.

When the bike got stuck to the roller, the child got thrown to the road injuring her head. Bhat and his wife wer also injured in the accident and all of them were rushed to Spandana hospital, where Sharvani breathed her last.

The four-laning work of Padubidri-Karkala state highway is entrusted to RNS Infrastructure Ltd, and there are many allegations of work being conducted without taking precautions. No warning signs are found in the area. The roller has no staff other than the driver which is risky for other road users.

The media had highlighted in July this year the dangerous manner in which the work progresses here. The then circle inspector Azmat Ali had responded that RNS company which has taken the contract and officials have been warned and the company will have to bear the consequences during any untoward incidents.

Was the Temple Priest blind or was he over speeding ? Couldn't he see the road roller at work ?

The road was not opened for public use. So how did the bike come there ? This was a work area.

Anyway it was tragic that a little child died in the mishap.

Road roller is one of the childhood obsessions...
It becoming a peril for an angel child is really unacceptable...
This may be one of the very few children in the history of the world to be killed by a road roller...
    Most unfortunate and most unbearable...

When the work is going on- from Padubidri... or vice versa, who is responsible for the incident- at what incident the Place of road developments.Poor Road Roller Driver is meant for road leveling and the contractor instructed him, level it don't bother about Safety of Public,Even any accident took place amount will be/given to the concerned Police sections .You can see this type of amount handing over to all the Police Stations at mischief work and for Transportation misuses.etc., at the time of Deepavali.

The Driver of Road Roller he can consume tobacco in both end of his mouth, and talking with Mobile Phone and hearing GANA at another Mble set, and endangering the lives of Public, and the Supervisors too with talking mode in his set, and completely purpose is to level the road, it endangering the lives of Poor innocent family -lost their bay.Do u Know the economical background of that family, pathetically lost their lovely baby. The Contractor should bear all the responsibilities, who is responsible to take SUCH contract work, Help that family soon. Even in NO infrastructure provided by the Honorable Minister's of Karnataka and from Central Govt.,even for road construction Safety measures it is clear even at NH66. we can see no fast work, unnecessary statements from the News Paper- and no such concerned Nation Highway Authorities r in a position to proper justifications/ even Media Personnel doesn't want to help Public.

don't comment unless u know the present situation. Vehicles r supposed to move into that muddy road itself,(mud road is not the one which is being repaired) left hand side of the picture(appears to be concrete road) is the actual place where work is in progress. don't comment by looking at the picture. road roller was supposed to be on the other side. why it came to mud road where vehicles r moving? I agree that there are no safety measures. I travel by this road every day.

Utmost care should be taken while moving in or around the construction zone. If we comment by the pictures above, the bike was on a road that was being leveled by the roller. Bhat should have been more responsible and vigilant towards the hazards .. first of all he took the road that was under repairs and work was in progress, secondly - he put himself and his family in danger by being behind a vehicle that was in operation on related works. There might have been quite some lapses relating to contractors, but, the fact remains that the father neglected to be cautious and now lost a precious child.

Sick Comment regarding the bike rider. Did it say how far the roller is reversed. How did the roller reverse without a warning signal or conductor to conduct the movements of the roller. It is the duty of the contractor to close the area of construction or the warning sign to warn the motorist. No one except for the roller or any other vehicle to reverse without warning. Bike rider should sue the RNS until it is bankrupt.

Felt sorry about the incident and Please to R.T.O to inspect vehicles strictly if they have hazard lights, head light's,indicators which is properly functioning or no.

And the Govt officials who are dealing with road project also check the safety of the company to whom they handover the project..
