Vatican City, Nov 26: Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras, who is on an official visit to Rome, called on Pope Francis and obtained apostolic blessings on the Bangalore Archdiocese and the people of Karnataka.

The Archbishop, who is visiting the Vatican for the first time after the election of the new Pope, had a private audience with Pope Francis on Monday and presented him a fragrant sandalwood carving of Blessed Virgin Mary. He also garlanded the Pope with garlands of scented sandalwood and cardamom, all products that are synonymous with Karnataka, on behalf of the faithful from the State.

Pope Francis received Archbishop Moras very warmly and gladly imparted his Apostolic blessings to the people of Karnataka, and in a special way to the people of Bangalore, particularly the clergy and faithful of the Archdiocese of Bangalore.

George Cardinal Alencherry, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, was present during the audience. Bangalore Archdiocesan priests Frs Christopher Vimalraj and Cyril Victor accompanied Archbishop Moras to greet the Holy Father.

Archbishop Moras is on an official visit to Rome and is accommodated at Domus Sanctae Marthae, where Pope Francis resides. Archbishop Moras, therefore, dines in the same refectory with the Holy Father and celebrates Mass with the Holy Father in the same Chapel.

Archbishop Moras also had the rare privilege of concelebrating the Holy Eucharist along with Pope Francis to mark the conclusion of the Year of Faith celebrations at the Vatican on November 23.

As a consulter and member of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers, Archbishop Moras is invited as a delegate to the XVIII International Conference organised by the Council focusing this year on the theme of “Care for the Elderly with Neurodegenerative Diseases.”

The World Health Organization’s Director for ageing, Dr John Beard, presenting epidemiological data, expressed concern that over 36 million people in the world suffer from dementia.

Professor of Palliative Medicine and Member of the House of Lords, United Kingdom, Baroness Ilora Gillian Finlay spoke of the need for early detection and holistic approach directed towards bio-socio-psycho-spiritual aspects of the patient care.

The Director of the Catholic Hospital Association of India (CHAI), Fr Tomi Thomas and Dr Thomas Mathew, Professor of Neurology, St John’s National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, are among the 750 participants from 54 countries attending the International Conference at the Vatican.

I truly agree with Praveen. The people who Disagree every comment are the ones either do not understand or do not believe there is only one God, the creator of all human beings. We just appreciate and thanking God for the blessings to India from our Head of the Church and in general praying for the whole world to live in peace and harmony. We are very proud to have a good Leader for our Church Pope Francis and Archbishop Dr. Bernard Moras, who are humble, simple & caring where our church is concerned. God bless them both with good health and peace which comes only from our Lord Jesus Christ and God bless us all.

Above news delighted me. The news about two simple persons and the precious gems of catholic community. Pope Francis the simplest person ever heard in my life and Bishop Bernard Moras simplest person ever met in my life. Bishop Bernard Moras a man of discipline and also a daring and hard working person whose perseverance is remarkable. He is daring because he condemned Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code as "Vicious" and diabolic. He called all Christians to boycott the film, version. Attack on (church)Christians pained him and he yells at Yeddyurappa (ex c.m.of Karnataka) and says "Sir we thank you for coming to the Bishop's house but the whole church in Karnataka is hurt. I am telling you publicly that we are very hurt. Tell me, will you keep quiet if the garbha gudi (sanctum Sanctorum) of a temple is destroyed?... During his dedicated service to Fr. Muller's Institute his concern to the most downtrodden leprosy patients, for whom there was no one except the hospital as their Saviour.

His simple life style single minded devotion to his duty, love for the sick, the poor, the downtrodden and the marginalized. Availability to all without any restriction love and respect for people. During his priestly ministry, he was very involved with health care. Archbishop Moras also chairs the pastoral commission for Health of the Catholic Bishops conference of India and is the Ecclesiastical Adviser to the Catholic Health Associations of India. So he is one of the participants attending the International conference at the Vatican.
Pope Francis, throughout his life, both as an individual and as a religious leader, has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor, and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths. He is known for having a simpler and less formal approach to the papacy, most notably by choosing to reside in the Domus Sanctus Marthae guest house rather than the papal apartment.

The Pope is so simple he chooses to live in a apartment instead of the papal palace to washing the feet of men and women in a youth detention center, Pope Francis’s actions contradict behaviors expected of a great modern leader. In this rapidly-changing world for people of faith or no faith really requires leaders like the Pope who passion is to be with people and value the human need for love, now all the world has an opportunity to learn about it through Pope Francis.
