Yashaswini Scheme Extended to All Co-operative Society Members

Mangalore: The facilities under Yashaswini scheme for co-operative farmers and weavers of rural areas have been made available for all members of co-operative society of rural areas, stated a press release issued by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO.

The scheme holds good even for all the Stree Shakthi Sangha and Self Help Groups that have secured loans from the co-operative societies. April 30 has been fixed as the last date for registration to avail facilities under the project. The hospitals that come under this scheme are Wenlock Hospital, Lady Goschen, Fr Muller Hospital, A J Hospital, Omega, KVJ Hospital (Sullia), Somayaji Hospital (Bantwal), Jyothi Hospital (Belthangady), Suraksha Hospital (Vittal), Chethana Hospital and Pragathi Hospital (Puttur).

Agriculture Department Constitutes ‘Krishi Pandita’ Award for Farmers

Mangalore: To recognize and appreciate the contribution of farmers to agricultural practices, the department of agriculture has decided to constitute a special award, ‘Krishi Pandita’, comprising of a cash award of Rs one lakh and a citation. There are four categories for the award, namely, effective water utilization, organic farming, development of agriculture equipments and agricultural practices with regard to crop patterns and crop development. Applications have to be sent before May 31 to the Agriculture Commissioner, Sheshadri Road, Bangalore.

Man Commits Suicide at Panambur Beach

Mangalore: A man killed himself by drowning at the Panumbur beach on Friday April 21 evening. He has been identified as Puroshottam, a resident of Kaikamba. It is believed that he had taken huge loans which he was not able to repay, and therefore committed suicide. Some passersby at the beach retrieved the body from the water and handed it over to the Panambur police station immediately.

The case has been registered with the Panambur police station.

Woman Hangs Herself to Death

Mangalore: A woman by name Jayanti, grieved by the death of her husband a few months ago, hanged herself to death here. A resident of Yeyyadi, Jayanti committed suicide at home when her daughter and son were away.

A case has been registered with the Kankanady police station.
