'Uyyala Jampala' strikes gold for Nagarjuna

Chennai, Jan 4 (IANS): Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna-produced Telugu romantic-drama "Uyyala Jampala", which released Dec 25, minted Rs. 6.25 crore in its first week in Andhra Pradesh, thus being declared a hit by trade pundits.

The film was reportedly made under a budget of Rs. 2 crore.

"It's a big hit for a film starring a host of debutants. In its first week, it netted approximately Rs. 6.25 crore and it continues to do well at the box office. It still has one more week of uninterrupted run before the Sankranti releases come out," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

Newcomers Avika Gor and Raj Tarun play the leads in the film which was directed by first-timer Virinchi Varma. It's a love story of childhood sweethearts set against a village backdrop.

Nagarjuna said that the success of the film made him believe in his judgment.

"The only good thing that happened in my life in 2013 is the success of this film, which increased my faith in my own judgment. I wish to do only different films going forward as much as possible. I'll try my best in this endeavour," Nagarjuna said recently at the success meet of "Uyyala Jampala".

Last year, Nagarjuna's career took a beating after two of his films "Greekuveerudu" and "Bhai" slumped at the box office.
