New Delhi - 08 May: The heat wave is still on especially in north and northwest India and there is going to be no relief from the blazing sun in the next few days.

Shimla, which is supposed to be the coolest, is still hotter than what it should be.

The high here was at 29 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal.

Amritsar soared to 45 degrees Celsius once again, which is seven degrees above normal, while Delhi settled at about 44 degrees Celsius.

In west India, Udaipur in Rajasthan too is reeling under the severe heat with the temperature touching a high of 43 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal.

Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh was scorching at 46 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal.

The Met department has warned that it's going to get hotter in the next few days.

Schools advised to shut

Due to the persisting heat wave conditions and power shortage, the Delhi government has sent an advisory to all government aided schools to close down from May 10.

The government has also advised private schools to consider shutting early for the summer holidays.
