Congratulations on this centenary celebrations. I can not just imagine how this school looked like 100 yrs ago. No doubt we have to encourage our regional language, Kannada, I too studied in Kannada medium school in Coondapur from 1945 to 1957, with English as a second language, but when when I joined St Aloysius college Mangalore in 1957, I found studying in Kannada medium was useless, as everything was in English, as it should be. From the beginning I was a lover of English and took great interest in the subject and I scored 67% in English in matriculation which was considered as a big score. My colleagues who were poor in English find it very difficult to manage in English medium, specially in science, and they changed the subject from Science to Commerce, some of them to Arts. As I said in the beginning I love and respect my mother tongue Konkani and English, but if you want to achieve knowledge in any subject ENGLISH is the only language. That is the reason English is called as international language. Kannada has its limited prospects. I have 3 boys and one girl, knowing the value of English in their later days, we used to strictly speak in English at home so that their English language should become strong, but we also taught them Konkani. Now, they are all engineers and doctors working all over the world, remember Konkani is not forgotten.
What I want to stress is as you all know English is gaining importance through out the world, even in Bombay and I am sure elsewhere maids are sending their children to English medium schools
    knowing the value of English.
I hope Infant Mary's School, Perampalli will slowly introduce English medium. You must have noticed scientists, doctors and highly educated people when they try to speak in their regional language when they do not find a suitable word they put an English word. Some of my reader friends may not like what I have commented but I have just expressed my experience. Thank you. Congratulations once again.
