Four die in Bengal, gang rivalry suspected

Siliguri, Feb 2 (IANS): The charred bodies of four men were found Sunday in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, with police suspecting the deaths to be a fallout of a war between gangs of cattle smugglers.

The incident came to light early the day in Balram Sardarpara area. Two of the bodies were in a car and the other two nearby.

"Prima facie it appears to be a result of gang rivalry of cattle smugglers. The charred remains of a cattle was also found in the car," Siliguri Police Commissioner Jagmohan said.

"One of the bodies has injury marks, suggesting they were attacked before the car was set on fire," added the officer.

Two bodies lay a few metres away from the car, indicating they tried to escape after the vehicle was set on fire.
