Mangalore, May 24: A meeting of top officials of the district administration was held on Tuesday to work out strategy to meet with the possible flood damages, which are likely to occur in view of the onset of regular monsoons.
The meeting was held in the office premises of the deputy commissioner, Dakshina Kannada.
Presiding over the meeting, district secretary in charge H A M Sheikh said that with the impending monsoon forecast to hit the coast by May-end all precautions against storm, lightning, floods, sea erosion etc. had to be taken. In this regard, he sought the cooperation and action on a war footing from the respective departments.
Shaikh also said local level coordination committees should be set up. He suggested that control rooms be set up in the offices of the DC, taluk, MCC, MESCOM, police, home guard etc. and that phone lines be used only for incoming calls.
DC Dr H V Parshwanath, SP B Dayananda, home guards commander Dr Shivaprasad Rai, ZP CEO A M Kunhappa, HQA at DC office A G Bhat and others were present.
