Sharjah, Mar 3: Sathish Poojary, past president and founder member of the executive committee of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Chaanakya’ Award instituted by the Public Relations Council of India, for his outstanding contributions and achievements in the fields of social service, philanthropy, promotion of culture, education, blood donation drives and sports.
The Award was jointly presented by Neela Satya Narayan, Maharashtra state election commissioner, J S Saharia, chief secretary, government of Maharashtra and Rajshree Birla, director of Birla Group, in a glittering ceremony held at the Orchid Hotel, Mumbai recently.
Sathish Poojary is no stranger in the social circles of Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general. A veteran resident of Dubai for over quarter of a century, working as a technical manager with Pioneer Insurance, Dubai serving a large network of trusted client base. Poojary’s entrepreneurial acumen enabled him to successfully foray into the hospitality business as well, establishing a restaurant giving gainful employment to over 20 employees.
Poojary is an advisor, founder member serving on the executive committees of several regional associations like Billawas Dubai & Northern Emirates, Nama Tuluver, Shri Sathya Narayana Pooja Samithi, UAE, Dhwani Prathistana, Dubai etc relentlessly over the last couple of decades.
His social bent of mind is well-complemented by an equally accomplished spouse Suvarna Poojary, a multi-talented stage artiste of repute, convenor of the Vara Mahalaxmi Puja Samiti, committee member of Gammath Kalavider – an amalgam of amateur stage artistes no less accomplished than the professional drama troupes that frequent the shores of Gulf. They have two children - daughter Shruthi – a gifted student adjudged as the ‘Outstanding Student’ of Jain University, Bangalore, where she is pursuing her graduation degree course - and son Shravan studying in the Indian High School and a good football player representing his school at the national level. The extra-curricular activities and the socio-cultural participation trait runs deep in the family with each of the members a noted achiever in his or her own rights.
Kind, sober and soft spoken Sathish Poojary received honours from several Associations like Vijaya College Mulki, Dwani Prathistana Dubai, Billawara Balaga Abu Dhabi, Billawara Maha Mandala Mulky, Billawara Association Mumbai, Billawas Dubai & Northern Emirates, Billawa Sangha Udupi etc.
Poojary has been instrumental in mobilizing several socially conscious and noble activities helping the needy, poor, sick, sports and education related causes serving through the multifarious associations that he and his family are connected with, relentlessly for the last over 2 decades. The list of beneficiaries of his largesse is quite long. Suffice it to say, Poojary has rendered and continues to render yeoman service to humanity and we, at the Karnataka Sangha Sharjah can do no better than to wish Poojary and his family continued good health, more strength to their arms to continue to help the needy and the poor, peaceful, contended life ahead, in the service of humanity.
