Catholic devotees observe Ash Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church

Mumbai, March 7: Catholic devotees in Sacred Heart Church at Andheri east began lent, a period of forty days of fast and penance on March 5, Ash Wednesday with ash on their foreheads.

Catholics will commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross till Good Friday on April 18 with fasts, sacrifices and special devotion.

Besides Mumbai, Catholics in Goa and the coastal region went to nearby churches in the morning, participated in holy mass with devotion and prepared themselves for a period of penance.

Similarly Catholics in Sacred Heart Church began the period by fasting and prayers.

Fr Baptist Pais chief priest in the church and Fr Innocent Fernandes offered the holy mass. Fr Ivan Gomes, Fr John Singarayan and Br Wilson Alfred cooperated by applying ash to the forehead of devotees.
